My buddy Larry and his friend's kid and I left O'side a little after 6, lucky to get a parking spot. Headed for my numbers 8 miles off at 33.05 X 117.29 didn't make it that far. Crashing tuna at 6 1/2 miles got the first one on a Shimano Bait Runner 6500 (don't laugh) on a 130 flat-fall phantom squid. Small BFT and his buddy in the bag on bait. Water was blue and around 69.5 to 70 all day.

Never moved more than 1 1/2 miles let the sardines soak for a while each time. Few boats around us until 8 or so then we were all alone. Couple boats showed up when we headed in at 11:00.

Friend's kid got some exercise on this BFT on 30 pound mono with 30 floro leader:

Stopped for the kid to get this one on the way in on more crashing tuna.

Fish out of ice for group photo then bagged and tagged.

All fish except the small BFT caught on long soaked sardines largest fish 35 pounds. And yes I like veal too ;)

PS. How many times do you hear your cell phone ring on a tuna bite in July :D

Nice job out there. When you guys are soaking are you just fly lining a bait or do you use some weighted?

Fly lining let them run a while, put on the clicker, put in the rod holder and waited for the zzzzzzzz which did not take long. We were on a trashcan lid sized paddy that we kept coming back to. We looked around for tuna we could see breaking around us close and if we seen some within 100 yards or so we would reposition, probably 5 or 6 times me moved to breaking tuna, then back to the paddy.

Thanks, I add about a cup of rock salt, raw sea water, and used 60 pounds of ice in the bag. Could barely get it zipped after the last fish.
