I wasn't able to fish it this year, but looking at what was up for grabs and the turnout numbers, this has got to be best yet; hell, just going tuna fishing could nab you $2,500...can't wait to hear all the details

Can we get some better bait next year? Kinda kidding.....Maybe a bit more accessible weigh in? Multiple weight ins maybe?

And how about making different classes of entrants?

The guys who won it all had a 500k fishing machine, I’ve got a 20 year old fishing boat... i feel like I can’t even compete with that. I’d like to have a shot at least, so maybe different classes or class by hp? Or number of engines?

I did win a shwag bag and the food was great tho!

Overall it was a great adventure for me and my team.. we might do it again next year.

I personally like the easy format. We ran in a 22' Pathfinder Bay Bass Boat. took us 4+ hours to get to San Clemente Island. We thought that would give us the best chance to catch (3) 30 pound fish but ended up with (3) 10 pound fish. We typically fish Bass Tournaments where decision make or break you. We've run to Catalina and been beat buy guys who stay close to home. I see your point but my theory has always been "You got to pay to play" and with a 1 in 100 chance to win $25K and you might get lucky with a little bit of skill I will pay $125 to be part of a 3 man team any day of the week. The Captain Bags alone had over $75 worth of swag in them plus a killer YTSO shirt. Plus the free beer and the nice luncheon I personally think the value it there.

Hope the guys that run those $500K boats don't keep you from fishing it. I know I'm not afraid of them;)

Thank you BD for putting on a great show!

One thing I've learned in my limited tournament experience is if your focus is on what other boats are doing, you haven't prepared properly.

Right on, and yeah even a guy in a tin can could get lucky and be competitive. We fished Clemente as well but had nothing but bass and barracuda all day. Weather was much better running east back to Dana Point without much issues.
How you guys made it back down the line in that south breezeis crazy.

Right on and nice job, tough conditions for all.

Michelle did a hell of a job coordinating and planning this event! It takes a ton of effort and this was a huge year given the record-breaking turnout. The sponsors were generous with their donations judging by the prizes won for those that placed as well as those who won a raffle drawing.

The final results and some pics will be posted soon by BD staff. Stay tuned!

It was a $750k boat that won, not a $500k boat......come on now.......

Congrats on another safe successful year.

The best thing about this tournament, IMO, it doesn't really matter what size boat you pilot. YT are found inshore, offshore and at the islands. Anyone can get lucky and land the prize fish, but a skilled and knowledgeable angler in an 18-foot skiff can out fish a mega yacht who can go to SCI or Cat, or way offshore or way south looking for paddies.

Congrats to the winners, and glad everyone had a good time. Hoping to partake next year.

Two years ago I got sixth place out of over 60 boats. Some high end machines to little skiffs. I don't remember who won, and sixth place isn't shit, but I figure I did better than most, including all my other buddies that entered. My boat turned 30 that year, and is only a 17 footer. Bait was ok that year.

Seriously!!! I didn't go far this year either. That year we went to the 181, the 43, over to LaJolla (trolling) and back to mission bay. 30 gallons of gas.

Awesome ran contest! 2nd time, and looking forward to next year. This one was rough for our boat Outee Five; ppssible torn ligaments in foot, rough seas, crowded islands, rockpile filled with pens (don't fish down there much), but won an Accurate reel! Yeeeehaw, and drank some delicious Sculpin with great food! GREAT JOB and such a good time.
