Got at the dock at 3:30 for a 4am departure so we could get out to the 43 asap. Water was incredibly blue and about 70.5 degrees when we got there but very green/grey almost the entire way out...Quite a few LARGE private boats showed up! We, as well as most of them, were on the kite most of the day...saw plenty of life all morning/day including big two fin blunas but nothing wanted to bite anything we threw at em. Finally said fuck it and jumped in and shot some the face...

Day count was 2 dodo's, 1 yt (cleaned and eaten for lunch almost immediately), 46 coors lights, 40 gallons of gas, 1 scoop of bait, 1 jackass (who pulled up on us diving a paddy and threw irons in the water...we were there for 20 minutes and this guy shows up outta nowhere throwing jigs 20 feet from us). I get no one person owns any paddy, but that's just a dick move, pointless and unsafe, but we definitely didn't let him ruin our great day!!

Coming back though inside the 9?!?! The amount of life we saw was staggering...small YFT's and dodo's jumping everywhere in open water with no paddies. If we got 50-75 yards from them they sunk out immediately...as soon as they get less skiddish I bet the kill bag just might get filled up!!

Catalina Two Harbors run this weekend...good luck this weekend everyone!

Sounds like a fun day on the water, nice to be able to get those fish that don't wanna bite the hook!

    Thanks for the report!

Next time just dive down right before they cast and swim in front of the jig and cut the line. Thats what i do. I never dive a paddy if others were there first, so why should they fish it if theres someone in the water. Its actualy against the law if someone gets with in a certain distance of you with a vessel when your diving and have your dive flag displayed. I would have got the coast guard on the radio also. Its time people start learning and obeying the laws.

You can carry a "self defense mechanism" while camping(certain places)/ fishing. In the ops case he's got a speargun. Would sound weird explaining to the coast gaurd why that guy has a spear in him though. Hahah

Been we all been there. Had charters throw jigs directly on our boat when we are on the fishing spot first. Divers hijack our paddys. Boaters run over a school we find miles ahead of the pack. Keep cool, relax and fish guys.

I dive also but have never dove open water and paddys. Always wanted to try but being captain of my own boat and having fun with the boys fishing and relaxing with a beer, I stick to that when hunting pelagics.

    Thanks for the report!

Nice report and pics.....your refusal to get in a conflict with dummies is a sign of maturity and character....I have cut off a few lures myself over the years (and, even one anchor line once when a lure was stuck in my wetsuit after a sport charter pulled up on top of me at Catalina)....We all have to work together when the quarters get close but, putting a person in danger of injury changes the game....

Yeah we just gave him his time. We already fished the thing hard so we knew he wouldn't be long before he took off!

Crazy good picture. Also looking forward to a video.

About time someone fired a jig at a diver. Complaints have been 5:1 in the other direction.

Be safe you knuckleheads who have no common sense or respect for one another.

But if a diver is in the water before them its not right. And 50 miles off shore is past the 24 mile i-waters limit. I carry my ar in a locked gun case until i reach i-waters then open it up. I never risk being in open water without a fire arm. People are getting crazy. Dont fuck with people that far out or it might be your last time on the water.

Another note to self, upgrade firepower ASAP
