Late start had us waiving goodbye to the always jovial Nacho with a half a scoop of nice sardines at around 9:45. We ran out and tried a few spots near the red channel bouy In about 80-90 feet of water. Ocean/wind was surprisingly calm until about 12. Sea temperature was still only 61.

We metered a few areas with some fish, but didn’t really see much bait on the meter, or the surface. Had a couple of short strikes, one bit most of my sardine off on the drop (barracuda?). In retrospect, with the bait so large, water so cold, and fish seeming lethargic, I should have tried some cut squid. oh well, I’m just learning and it was a beautiful day to be out on the water.

Were there dogs in the area? Was your bait just the head on the hook? If so I will bet you it was dogs. Went out last sunday and the dogs were all over us. It seemed like ever other bait was coming in with just the head.
