This post needs it's own thread.....
beautiful tribute Smudge gracias.
we just got back from a very long day in Vizcaino waiting for officials, doctors, the coroner, funeral directors, secretaries etc etc and signing copious copies.
I also visited Stan in the cool room and it was quite an experience. His makeover is amazing and he looks really great in his favorite dress fish shirt he wore on special occasions. It was hard not to think he was sleeping except he wasnt snoring. Tears of love and sadness were shed throughout the day for my amigo.
Tomorrow we will make his resting place...we got the blocks, cement and rebar ready for the construction. Death is a very hands on thing here...I learned alot about the process here. In a strange way, it's neat to be involved in all the aspects of a friends final voyage. WE are hoping to raise some cash to make him a real tombstone with a big fish on it of course...anyone have a design idea? For now it will be the local wooden cross and wreaths...nobody has flowers after the big storm.
Friday afternoon Stan will arrive in style and we will hold an all night vigil at Campo Sirena. Saturday morning will be the funeral service and Stan will lay to rest at the panteon here with a wonderful view of the ocean. We will then have a campfire and wake party in his honour.
Any of Stan's amigo wanting to contribute to Stan's wake can do so by making a paypal donation labeled Stan's wake to the account of [email protected] all donations will be graciously appreciated....thanks to those who have already donated to help make Stan's last party a nice one.
We are graciously accepting donations for Stan's farewell.
By the response to this thread, I think you will need a bigger house Scott
Let me know what I can do Sherm
I heard about this today. Dang it Stan! You were suppose to "live the life" down there alot longer for us. Well, you were where you wanted to be and despite our limited/casual interaction, I always knew you were a good man! You will be missed Stan and my best thoughts for your family and friends.
This is really a shock. Stan really was a good guy. RIP Bro you will be missed.
I've got a good sized back yard bro. We will make it happen.
Very sad news. Condolences to Stan's family and his BD extended family. Truly loved and looked forward to reading his posts. Time to reflect.
Stan from this thread......
Thanks bro. The 10th of November may be the day. I'll let you know when we get it nailed down.
I will be 3,000 miles away that day, but I will raise one in his honor that evening!!!
Just heard at the beach and wanted to post my condolences to all who knew him. Stan was loved by many, he turned me on to BD in it's infancy and we fished together a few times. Always was around to help when help was needed. He found his place in Asuncion, happiest he had been in a long while, RIP Stan
Loved by many; missed by all. I'm gonna miss his comments and contributions. RIP-Stan
So, so sorry to hear this. I loved hearing about the life he was living down there. Rest in peace brother.
Wish I could be at the service this weekend. We raised a glass last night in memory of Stan.
I hear you Ali. It still doesn't seem real. It just keeps hitting me as the day goes on. Surfdoc RIP.
I'll repeat what I commented to Corb's post on FB:
"No, no, no! Say it ain't so! This can't be real!" All so sudden, surreal! Bruddah Stan was so full of life! He was all set up in Asuncion to live his dream!
Rest in peace, bruddah Stan!
Me ke Aloha pumehana.
Sad days indeed. I didn't know SD personally but felt I did just from the BD brothers
Brutal news. He'll be missed....
