We have crowned a new King, our jackpot winner of the biggest fish on the Snaggie BD Reunion Charter trip on the Vendetta yesterday! Yes folks, Carl has been dethroned after carrying the title King Carl for the 2 previous charter trips. Out with the old and in with the new - King Alex aka King Zhalvaje! What's funny is that I took this picture at the beginning of the trip with Carl and Alex not knowing that Alex was eyeing that crown and would be the one to take it from Carl! New King!! I booked a private charter on the Vendetta with Captain Nick Lambert (son of BD member Spyder) at the helm. I had heard a lot of great reports about the Vendetta putting people on some nice fish and had great hopes for our trip. My expectations were far exceeded thanks to Captain Nick! We met up at the boat at 4:30 am, after taking care of passports and licenses, etc. we headed to the bait barge for some lively sardines and off we went to the rockpile. We anchored and chummed, bonito showed up first, we were hitting them left and right with everyone catching. Instead of picking up and moving to another spot, we stuck it out and then the yellows showed up catching limits in the 13 – short of 20 lb range for yellowtail. While we were on a good bite, I asked Nick to check the drag on my reel and he adjusted it, put a new bait on for me, cast it out, handed me the rod and said " you're going to catch a nice fish!" Within a couple minutes, I got hit! Nick stood by my side and followed me around the boat until it came to color and he gaffed it to bring on board for me. I got the first bluefin! All high fives around! We continued on our great yellowtail bite with everyone trying for the jackpot fish and to dethrone King Carl. It was close between Stevie's yellowtail and Brandon's (Pacodie) yellowtail. Then Alex (Zhalvaje) got hooked up on a big fish and reeled in the 2nd bluefin! It was going to be a close call to find the winner but in the end, Alex's bluefin outweighed the rest and took home the crown! The majority of fish were caught on live bait and some surface irons and yoyo jigs. We went looking for yellowfin at the 425 area but did not finding them. I cannot say enough good about Captain Nick and the Vendetta. I have personally known him for many years but have never been on the Vendetta or a sportboat he's worked on. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was on fish and helping everyone out who needed it. He was extremely attentive to the group checking in to provide options for where we wanted to go and gave us reports to help us decide our course. My yellowtail: The Vendetta provided tri tip, rice and salad for us which was incredibly good! We had a fantastic pot luck with way too much food! Lots to eat and drink with old friends and some new ones that joined the group! HUGE thanks goes out to Bloodydecks for providing us with a fantastic reel, Cuda knives, t-shirts, caps, and tons of swag for our jackpot winner and raffle prizes! We really appreciate all you do to support the BD community! (Jason, your green thong was passed on to the new King! I think he liked it!) I will be booking a couple of trips for next summer on the Vendetta. Hope to see some of you there! Captain Nick and his dad "Spyder" Jim Lambert We caught a lot!!!
