Or you can re-up with PSA and just hope something eventually will change.[/QUOT

Ron "Gill net" Garner has joined the Tribes and Commercials, not sure who he actually represents. He was just in Olympia testifying in favor of the increase, while many others were testifying no raise in fees until the sportsman get more fishing opportunity.

Ron seems like a guy that just wants to be in the play regardless of what the play is. And he didn’t really understand the gill net issue. From my understanding, he tried to walk back his position after sending the letter but it was too late.

Ask yourself this: why is wdfw so quick to involve Ron while constantly screwing over sporties?

I love the no true knowledge of how the fisheries works from the federal level, you really should learn before running off half cocked like little school girls gossiping, if you want to know why Ron did something like this, just ask, he is glad to explain.

Still no answers....To be clear i like work Ron is doing and appreciate his work as well as the others actually trying to make a difference. Some of you are mixing up the issues here. I understand having strange bedfellows as a means to some ends. What i dont is socialist ideas (we pay so "redistribution" can happen for others lol) and asking sportsmans to bear costs without any assurances or answers for our own permit and HGMPs. Again horrible timing asking for fee increase from this constituent group.

i hope WDFW guys dont play chess. bring someone in with tactical/strategic experience in private/military sector and stop getting outplayed at every turn. Embarrassing

    "Hope is not a plan".

This 100%. And sharing that you are fed up throwing $$ to attorney fees, mismanagement, etc..should not be viewed as you are some asshole just because you think hope is not a strategy!!!!!!!!

How about we increase the salmon license a couple hundred bucks. The additional cost goes straight to hatcheries. They pump out some ridiculous number of fish, we're talking 20 fish mornings here :D. And as an added bonus for your generosity to the hatchery program each person gets 25 tags for seals/sea lions. Problem solved.

Oh and while we're at it lets put a $50 feed the whales tax on every ticket bought for a whale watch boat. That money goes straight to hatcheries. That way when they chase them around all day they can also feel good inside for helping to feed the whales.

I know, I know, never could/would happen but who on here wouldn't jump on board with that?

I too appreciate what Ron has done and the work he puts in. And I'd love for him to come on and explain to us how more gill nets will help us access our fisheries. I'm all ears.

Form a poachers union and pay the fines of those who get caught. They are probably very small fines and you can almost certainly get 10 in a row before they even consider upping the amount or revoking your license for less than one year.

Koopa you and Tommy and Andrew you can go FUCK YOURSELF. You don't understand the system with NOAA/NMFS, Tribes and WDFW. Before you open your pie hole get educated by some one who is involved. Some of us like Ron and I spend a hell of a lot of money and time as volunteers to try and get the best fishing opportunity we can for all the sport fishers in WA. If you want to bitch get involved and help. As your Washington Sport rep for PFMC for the Washington coast I am always open to listen to everyone and educate them on the process and what's going on. My memory might be getting a bit foggy. But...weren't we predicting two or three years ago Puget Sound would be taking a hit because of The Blob, you know poor ocean conditions that would hurt survival of the fish. Now it's 100% mismanagement blah, blah, blah. Yes due to habitat being messed up because of population growth we need to supplement it with hatchery production. I'm not sure why the State backed off on the hatcheries other than political whackos but that's only thing I can see to improve this.
Regarding gill nets. Seems like a remember around Bolt decision time we were complaining a lot about nets. I remember the statement right or wrong that gill netting was a terminal fishery for a lot of the areas, IE it targets a certain system. Your open ocean, Straits and Puget Sound is a mixed bag with the chance of catching fish out of the troubled streams so your fishery in those areas were managed but "least" stream which is a real bummer.

Yeah like I'm going to stop fishing that boat because of an increase of the fishing license. That really doesn't make a lot of sense.
Someday we need to get all the Duckworths fishing out of Westport together and have a little party or just go out and fish silvers together in the same area. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again soon

As mentioned before super happy for all the glass half full ocean folks, life is great really as is 'merica

Dave i hope you understand or atleast can see my logic/questions. Orca talks we are less than 1% impact can we simply ask the 99% ers to pay for increased hatchery production? Salmon restoration really has failed for how many years and small increased user tax on the 1% will cure this? Bad timing. isnt there a $$ federal match on license sales? Mark my words this got fucked up, timing could not be worse i.e. faster death spiral.

I say mismanagement because that is what i truly believe. How are the chum and pinks doing in puget sound? Thats just the blobs fault? Lol. Under whos watch did that get fucked? The list goes on and on and on.

If i am off on any facts or opinions please set me straight or atleast offer differing logical viewpoint on this stuff

It is 100% poor management. Ocean conditions play a big role, as do habitat problems. But so is saying gill nets can be used as a selective fishing tool to remove salmon in our fall fisheries or asking those that dont get to catch most of the fish to pay most of the cost.

Kim is going to pay the increase for any pissed off whiny bitches, right Kim?

I understand why halibut fee was added ( limit catch cards for non hali fishers and ultimately show less catch-ish we hope-ish) but where is that increased money going? Gosh there is more hoping in that deal too. we have a lot of hope with the department!

Wow. You're right I don't understand the system. All I did was post the previous NOF numbers and stated that our opportunities are based on wild impacts not the number of hatchery fish. Yeah I realize it's a little more complicated, but if I'm wrong, correct me. My other post was a pipe dream of increased hatchery production and a decrease in predators, isn't that what everybody wants? Not trying to start a fight here, I know you and Ron put in a lot of time for our opportunities and appreciate that.

Nope each guy can pay his own to play. I'm not saying I'm happy with the whole situation but it is what it is right at the minute and there's not a lot we can do about it as long as the Seattle L-wingers keep voting these Jack Wagons into office.
Halibut is a joke. North Pacific Halibut Commission. It's more like North Pacific halibut marketing Commission....Keep the quotas low to keep the price high. Complete 100% bullshit. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

Looking at our current trajectory, where will we be ten years from now?

Count the people here who aren't citizens and get more blue representatives. Stack the deck and win every hand. If you think there is a lack of sympathy/respect for things we value now, wait a few more years.

We (not me) have no concept of a long term strategy.

    The other side does.

P.S. Where are the pinks and chums? In the "clean up" nets?

PFMC Rep. Dave Johnson nice to meet you too asshole. You call yourself a representative but rather than coming here and responding to the many valid and legitimate concerns people have, you come to bash people and to talk shit. Your acting like a little triggered snowflake. Since I’m so fucking dumb please start the education daddy. Like I said there are many valid concerns/questions in this thread. Rather than address them, you try to shut down differently opinions—which is becoming a widely used tactic here. What is your/PFMC position on how the latest NOF went, and the multitude of restrictions throughout Puget Sound? Do you like standing on your knees? Sure looks that way.
