The volunteers met at the pier and started loading the pizzas, drinks, and rods onto the Daily Double while Sealskinner aka Mike purchased fishing licenses for each parent so they could fish alongside their kids. Sherm arranged for Channel 8 and Channel 10 news to be there to film and interviewed Sherm prior to boarding the boat. Channel 10 sent a cameraman along on the trip to record the event. After a couple of quick group pictures, we boarded the boat and were on our way.
The kids (and adults) were pretty hungry and started in on the pizza and drinks that were provided by those who donated money towards this trip. Fred Huber was at the helm, Ahidog assisted with instructions for the kids on how to fish and BD volunteers rigged up the rods and got everyone ready to fish!
It was a gorgeous night and the kids were super good and very respectful. They were really a lot of fun and had us laughing at some of the things they said and did. I will let Gil Marlin tell the story of Carl being there. Carl was very popular and resulted in a chant for him.
I need to go to Captain Ron's Crystal Pier Kid's Fishing Derby right now and don't have time to post more details of this trip but maybe others can chime in. I did upload all the pics I took and have a link to them. Frank, if you could please share the link with the YMCA so the kid's and their families can see them?
Huge thanks to Frank for sticking through it to gather donations and making this trip happen. Thank you to all the BD crew who donated $ and thank you to those of BD who were there to volunteer, SealSkinner, Sherm, Gil Marlin, I'm Off, Ahidog, Pacodie and any others who I may have missed. (I'm in a hurry to get to the pier now...) THank you to BD - Ali and Jason for the t-shi
