i wanna learn how to build my own rods, however I live in Brawley down in the imperial valley, any instructional books or videos I should be looking for. I figure it's a good way to unwind, and when it's not hunting season I need something...

Lots of info on YouTube, mudhole and Google I just attempted my first build and it came out nicely just research till you think your good and then keep going... Don't be afraid to ask people questions either I've picked lots of guys brains and learned tons in the past couple months before attempting anything and learned a lot from the first build
If you are ever in San Diego area on a Tuesday evening the SDBD rod building class has at least three very skilled builder/teachers there every week. Look at the top of this forum for more info.
Mud hole has videos that accompany most products they sell.
Batson has a good series on Youtube. Search batson chapter 1 rod building. I think it goes to nine chapters.
