Well, after several months of fishing every weekend, I finally caught something worth posting here. We started out of Barber's Point at 5am. Went to the barge at sunup and tried to catch some bait, but no luck. Trolled out to the pinnacle then out to CO buoy. Nothing, no bird piles, not even a strike. Tried jigging at CO because I saw a good school of fish on the sounder, but the waves were knocking us around, so headed back to the pinnacle. A few miles out past it, we started seeing scattered birds all flying one direction. Decided to follow them and they took me to a current line with a bunch of brown algae floating in it. Followed that for a while and noticed birds congregating a ways in front of us. Sped up to catch up with them and they were travelling fast. Finally caught up and the pile was huge and travelling about 15 knots. Got out in front of it and looked back and saw the huge school of otaru! Got one on a 7" purple and pink. Then spent a half hour trying to catch back up with them and got another on a 7" blue and ice blue with chrome head. Fishes weighed in at 24# and 25#.
