After eleven years in Baja, multiple shade tree repairs over the years, I yanked everything last fall, and trucked it back to the shop.

It was Volvo Grant, of Sea&Ski who convinced me it was time. His pronouncement, that “All us Baja Cunts, have to bring it home every ten years”
As many of us know, he’s rarely wrong.

My return with the rebuilt drives, shields, new manifolds, starters, alts, and heat exchangers. Was prolonged with the virus closing things down.

I kept stockpiling everything, While Grant built the drives, and transom shields. Thinking I’d get the drive back down by March. Needless to say it didn’t happen until last week.

Driving to the East Cape couple of weeks ago.
started clearing the North Forty. Discovered a handful of transom rot issues, and the forward motor compartment had a wet portion.

Nothing prepares you for mixing resin in Baja heat. First batch went off in under sixty seconds. By the time I got a handle on it, I’d wasted half of the gallon I’d brought down.

Twelve days later, I fired both motors. Fixed years of vacation repairs, re wired the charging regime. one motor with a big Balmar serves the house bank, while the other charges the starting bank.

Everything that can rust, freez, or simply break, will do so over time.
Happily she’s back together
Thanks Grant, it takes a village.

Back in the day, the gap between the motors was considered, innovative. until they started using late model drives, they never had cavitation problems. the Pictured 290 drives have spacers that eliminate cavitation in a turn. She's also got slender side decks.
With the two Chevy's she owns the shotgun starts down in Baja
