Went to Bart Hall show 2023 on Wednesday. Since it was a week day, crowd was light and parking was a breeze. 15 dollars for parking, 20 dollars for entrance and beer is at 15. No change there. It seemed most of the vendors that were at Fred Hall Show returned to Bart Hall Show, but some were smaller. So, overall show seemed just a bit smaller than previous Fred Hall Shows, but still plenty to see and great deals to be had. I've bought alot of stuff at PCS show and there were some tempting deals such as 107 dollar shimano teramar rods, 30% off on some avets, cheaper Madmacs and those squidtrex seemed sexy. I've spend some money on weights, hooks (25% off on owners), gaffs, and reel covers. Got some more fluorocarbons and picked up bunch of stickers. Hoped on boats that I love to have, but won't be approved and pulled on rods as if I was on a bluefin. Once again, it was a wonderful experience, and fun day spent doing things that excite me. Hope to see it to go full bloom next year and have even more vendors and even better deals.

Video walk through of the show.

That may be my last Hall show. I'll definitely never go to the LB show again. You skipped the part about the complete dipshits they had doing door security making sure nobody brought any water or snacks in. Took us half the time we spent in the show getting past them. Search every pocket of a backpack. Empty your pockets and go thru a metal detector that wasn't really working, then get wanded WTF? Surrender pocket knives or take it back to your car? Only 98% of guys walking in had a pocket knife with them. Plus you get inside and half the vendors are selling or giving away promotional knives (or letting you throw axes for fun). Rousting women with strollers to make sure they don't have a bag of cherrios for the kids. WTF? I'm guessing they just got out of the way for the first mob that went thru, but screwed with everyone else that trickled in. If that security is some LA county mandate, Bart needs to stop doing business there.

I didn't see any significant deals. None of the vendors had the reels my group was looking for. Bob Sands only had a handful of Rainshadow blanks, none of the Black Hole blanks I was looking for. Some if you wanted UC. Tons and tons of non-fishing stuff. Just go to a bad swapmeet, it's about the same experience this time.

PCS was way better and cheaper.

Best deal I haven't seen mentioned: Buy a Shimano reel at the show and take it to the PowerPro booth where they will fill it with PowerPro or Maxcuatro. Think they were asking for a $10 donation to CCA in order to completely fill larger reels.
Forgot to add that at the PowerPro booth they were also giving you 2 Shimano swimKick jigs with the free braid spooling

The security is a venue requirement, and many venues are implementing much stricter security these days. The no outside food and drink to that extreme does seem odd, but not out of the ordinary. You would be surprised what people try to sneak in to events, what looks like water is not always water.

It is ironic that they won't allow you to bring in a knife, but you can buy any number of knives at the show, including large filet knives.

I believe PCS show also had security to check through my backpack, and they questioned me about my selfie stick LOL. But as @Matrix mentioned, not sure why they are not allowing pocket knives when they have many vendors selling pocket knives, fillet knives, hunting knives and laying it out where any body can grab and swing around.

As somebody who visited both PCS and Bart Hall, if I had to choose just one to visit, I would also choose PCS this year by very small margin. But I do believe that having 2 shows will have some competition going on and will get better as time goes and benefit consumers at the end. Personally, I like having both shows, keeps me busy during slow fishing time.

If the venue hires ridiculous petty people that harass women with strollers and take 10 minutes to search my completely empty backpack, I won't be back. "You have to stand here because I say so" was the purpose. You put a windbreaker that says 'security' on it on some people and they completely lose their minds if they had any common sense to start with.

Top that with several vendors that pimped endlessly here for the last few weeks about all the stock and discounts they would have at the show and didn't bring any of it (never intended to) leads to a bad taste. No I won't drive an hour and a half to go get the 'show deal' back at the store after being baited to go to the show.

Cell and internet went down for about 1/2 an hour too inside the venue. People just setting merchandice down and walking away at Turners. Even texting wouldn't work inside. Not handy for meeting up with people. Poor performance from the convention center facilities.

I don't understand. I had a pocket knife and a bag with a sandwich and they said I was good to go with no issues and walked right through.

Ever been through TSA? Sounds like a simple comply, move on and get in.

This was my first and last Hall show it was massively underwhelming compared to PCS and mind you these are the first shows I have been to in 30 years.
I think it was my 13th year attending the show. And hope to see more people attending these shows. TBH, this year wasn't as good as prior ones, but for me it was still good and I think it had really good potentials and I'm sure it'll be better as time goes. On the other hand, PCS this year was so much better than last year's PCS and I'm sure that too will get even better as time goes.
Just for buying gears and deals, I would just choose either one to attend depending on the vendor preference since Hall and PCS had different vendors doing pretty much same sale items.
If you are there to save on one or two items, and paying $35 for parking and entrance, most likely, you would be better off just getting one from tackle store near you. It might just be me, but overall experience of viewing all these boats, seminars, tackles, guides and all the rest in one location is where real value lies. I'm just glad that we have such a wonderful shows that we can attend and experience without too much effort.

Maybe they were just being stupid when their boss was watching. When we walked thru every single person was being harrassed, sent back to the car. When I went thru the second time (without my 1/2 bottle of water and 3" pocket knife) I had my backpack empty and all zippers open. The 'security' woman took about 10 minutes looking into each pocket then slowly zipping each shut so she wouldn't get confused and have to start over. Metal detector was going off before anyone even approached it. The gal having to wand people was even complaining about it. I don't care what event they hold at that convention center - I won't go if they let employees be incompetent or rude.

Think I've only missed one Hall show in more than 30 years. I usually go start to finish on the first day and go back on Sunday. I won't go again.

Went last night and it was a breeze getting in. Granted it was 6:30 so security was probably all pooped out but it was easier then getting into Staples Center("take off your hat, empty your pockets, pull up your shirt, go back thru the metal detector, yadda yadda").

Anyway, loaded up on various shit I needed. Most expensive purchase was new tackle bag so only spent 2 bills total but saved about 40% overall since I was always buy last minute stuff from the landings. Turners had some good deals.

Thank you for all the deals and you guys were right in the middle and couldn't miss it. After a walk through and done recording, I went back and grabbed 8 reel covers and whole year's supply of weights and lead head from you guys. You guys had great price and best inventory in the show. 👍🏻👍🏻

I went there yesterday with 2 buds and had no issues with standard security
Plenty of good deals on rods, reels and tackle with
Bob Sands killing it on sales. Would have liked to see
more tackle vendors from OC and SD. Our threesome spent around $2500
I went there Wed, brought a backpack with a burger wrapped in foil, chips and water bottles and didn't get harassed at all by security. They did have me open up the backpack and said, ok go ahead.
Found good deals on lots of gear and enjoyed the seminars like always. I like the LB Show the best and will return.
