Hello all. I am new here, my first post. I inherited recently my grandfather's deep sea fishing gear. I have 6 Truline rods and probably 50 reels. They are all from the 70's at the latest, I believe. Anyone willing to give me an honest fair valuation?

Truline Varmac NF4. 7' .5"
Truline D96 - VARMAC NF-3. 7' 4.5"
Truline D8 - Varmac Nf-4. 7' 3"
Truline XI - Varmac NF2. 7' 7"
Truline 88 - Varmac LW3. 7' 11"
Truline 36 - Varmac RS-3. 7' 6"

The world of Trulines is a mystery and a trap. Three expert can look at a rod and give you three different answers. The advantage you have is the age of the rods, they were labeled before the big Truline hype. From the brief time I have been trapped in the Truline maze price is based on length, thickness of glass and color of blank. If you try to get help on establishing value for sale do it in person! If the expert tries to buy anything refuse! If you do fish, fish them, enjoy them. Good luck.

Not much value in those rods as the two that would have value (d8 & 36) are cut rods. Might want to PM Jiggyn on the boards to see as i have not seen or heard of any of the other model numbers before. I would keep them and fish them cause your grandpa gave them to you
Unfortunately my grandfather passed in 1986 when I was 11. My Dad ended up storing them all this time until he moved to Texas 2 years ago. They are my grandfather's, but he didn't specifically give them to me. But your point is valid. I would like to keep one at least, we will see how it goes.

I swear my grandfather must have cleaned out a tackle shop or 2. This stuff is pretty cool and some new in the package.

Mister Twister
Mepps Double Cross
Dave Davis #10
Vivif - invented in France. Looks, darts, wriggles. Even feels like a minnow.

Never heard of a Truline 88. I’m guessing it’s either a 36 where numbers written almost went together or a D8 here numbers look like they went together.

What the, what the.... guess my browser got updated at work! I can now do replies.
Could you show the jigs better. There may be something of value. Also is that a Vivif or a Hoochy Toad?

The one new in the package is a Vivif, Minnow. These are the jigs I have out right now. I have a bunch more in other boxes I'll have to open up again. Are The blue and white ones called candy bars? There are 6 new in the package. They say Salas O.POP on the bottom. The other pics are from a package that says Deb Don Bootees. One looks new, the other 2 have rough chrome.

So looking at these rods a little closer, it does appear what I thought was 88 may be another D8 or Was there a B8 model? Also the D96, could be D76?

Often the B represents that the rod was not factory wrapped. Sold originally as a blank, a bare rod designed to be custom wrapped for the end user.

It would probably be a DB. The corresponding number would refer to the length of the rod.
