Playboy Too struck an object in the water 40 miles out and punched a hole in the bow. USCG delivers pumps and a damage control kit via Jayhawk and two 47' MLB's and escorts the damaged boat into Westport.

Been on that boat a few times, looked like the captain jumped in to patch! That's just badass and gettin it done, good on him. :worship:

Agreed. Sounds like he used the damage control kit the CG gave him though.

Kinda makes me think I need a few boards of various sizes, heavy lag screws, and a cordless 1/2" drill motor onboard now. Damn! My boat is so heavy now though I barely have capacity for fish as it is. :zelfmoord

Watched it happen. Stood by 500 feet off in case assistance was needed. Sea Angel and Gold Rush as well as team ARSC were on site as well. All is fine and the playboy too and Eric made it back to port on there own power. Very sobering experiance, as this is evey captains worst fear. Glad Eric and his boat are relatively ok!

Happened on the way in. Noticed the issue at the number 4 when I throttled down. All part of the deal. You take the bad with the good!

Did the coasties ask permission to board the boat? That was a breech of that captains rights... I wonder if they removed their guns first. :2gunsfiring_v1: :deadhorse

Watched far too many tiny boats leaving everett this morning with the wind howling, some with no lights in the dark, i would think they get sick of stupid people

Personally I feel better on the water everytime i see their presence. It's appreciated especially with young kids on board. You never know what could go wrong.

Never could have never imagined a Sun fish could do that to the bow. Wow. Hat's off to the Skipper pretty bad ass. I always wondered about having to jump in way off shore. Great team effort by the Good Samaritan boats and CG personal. Could not have written a better shitty situation gone good.
I remember the fleet of "playboy" boats back in the day. Happy to hear they will continue on.
Cheers

I'd have to doubt the sunfish theory.. I drilled one at about the 200' line on the way in Tuesday, and I mean drilled it. When we got closer to shore the wind was blowing about 10 kts or so... Just enough to confuse the water into that tiny busy chop. I was cruising along at 28 mph or so and the crack sounded like an axe splitting a log. When I saw we weren't taking on water, I checked the motor. No issues there either. So I went back to investigate. Little bits of meat everywhere, then this floated up!

That's about 10"x6"x3"

Guess the crabs gotta eat too, but it scared the heck out of me!

If my 22' boat could skip over one, I'm not sure how a big charter could get a hole from one!

Good thing everyone made it back safe and the CG was there to help!

Safety in numbers isn't a bad rule to follow in life...relatively speaking.

And thank god it didn't happen in the dark and or in moderate or rough sea. Thank you thank you thank you that boat didn't sink.

Really cool that everyones got each others backs out there.

As for the sunfish, those fuckers are everywhere. Hit one last year that busted a trim tab. Hit something this year too that cracked my lower unit. Maybe sunfish too. They can get like 2000lbs so i suppose it could crack a charter boat hull if hit at speed.

Plus the thought of having to get in the water with the chumslick your tuna laden boat is gonna leave going down is chilling considering the numbers of sharks out there.

Thanks for the coast Guard.
Thanks for that preparedness of the captain. If he was not prepared it would have been worse.
I am sure captain had working pumps, extra pumps, shutoff valves, some type of padding, wadding, blanket, to keep people warm and help slow the leak, for 45 minutes before bigger pumps arrived. HE WAS PREPARED. Did not panic and, kept his cool.

Call went out at 0945 hrs.
Hello on scene 1030 hrs.
boats time on scene 1200 hrs.
This is my point perfectly.
Do not get me wrong. There is a need for the Coast Guard. BUT you the owner, driver, captain MUST BE PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF FOR 1 HRS MINIMUM.
All I have heard is just call them, they will come quickly and save you. All I have to do is wait. That is bullshit and do not believe it.

Yep. You're right. It's wise to be able to take care of yourself until we get there..but if you can't the cg will be there as quick as they can. We haven't quite mastered the art of teleporting, so it might take some time to get there. We did recently start training on flying broomsticks. They're a little quicker to get in the air than the helo..

Emergency repair kit..... Splash Zone , Goggle it... Amazing stuff, works best under water. Troy told me about it, I fixed my bait tank with it.
Really check it out, so many uses.
Englund Marine has it, about 100 bucks a gallon but well worth it.
