Any updates on the offshore report at San Quintin??? I'm heading down next weekend, and want to know if it will be worth it to head offshore for potential tunas or kelp paddys holding some tails. Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. If Dorado/YT/YFT are 95-110 miles from San Diego, then they could have passed thru the high spots off San Quintin.

Heavy marine layer and blowing like Hell. Watch the weather reports before coming down. We expect a change about Thursday, but keep an eye on the weather!

    Heres the "skinny":
Inshore is ok, theres some yellowtail if your boat works hard....make bait and work the options hit all the spots. Most boats are fishin bass and bottom.
Offshore is where its at right now but i dont mean 20-25 miles.....i mean 30-40 miles Tuna Hole or other banks on that line.
My take is that its really good out there but you gotta roll the dice and go for it. Paddys are holding lots of fish!
You may have to go all the way to the island to make bait before heading offshore (thats what i would do) but it,ll be worth it
(If you get on a cheap boat.....you,ll get a cheap trip......boat ride)

Awesome, thanks for the info Kelly, that's exactly what I wanted to hear, I figured tuna hole would be the good way to go, I would like to check out some of those offshore paddys, I'd rather roll the dice and get skunked offshore, than hit up some bottom fish. Is it sardines or macs for bait at the island??

Just got back last night from 4 days of fishing at San Quintin. We fished for what was biting which was Calicos and shallow water reds. Wide open on the calicos in the kelp for 2 days, with swimbaits being the hot ticket. 1oz heads, red flake , 5 inch swimbaits on the sink. Bass seemed to want to stay at about 20 feet down. LOTS of CALICOS to about 7 pounds.

Lots of reds in shallow water (100 ft)down by Tranquillo. Hot ticket was anything with red flake with a small piece of squid on the hook. When you were in the area, it was a fish every cast. No Joke! Left them biting everyday.

No bait in the bay yet. Lots of bait on the east side of the island. Both squid and mackerel. Be sure to bring a few squid catchers. We made squid at all hours of the day. Just find the birds sitting, meter around until you see the blue fuzz on the bottom and drop the jig. Mackerel were in the same area breezing on top every morning.

Wind started to blow and we bailed. Will return on the 11th for more fun!!

By the way, we were the only private boat launching down there this past weekend. You used to have to wait in line every morning this time of year to launch your boat. Hope things turn around soon for everyone involved down there!

I have had a place in San Quintin for 20 years and I have only seen the lack of bait this bad, this year and last year. I do not know if it is the unusually cold water the last two years or the bait boats that wrap all the bait in the area to feed the tuna pens.

If I remember correctly, it was Labor Day last year when we started to see catchable quantities of bait in the bay.

hey, i fished with tiburons about two years ago and got fucked !!!!
quoted $ 200.00 u.s. for the day and when we landed, they wanted $ 300.00.

they told me it was because we went trolling...bullshit...maybe about 15 minutes total with a honda 4 stroke, couldn't have burned much gas.

i was by myself so i didn't have any arguing room.

one of the locals told me they were known for that.

garcias and captain juan and kelly are known to be honest but...you need to make all your negotiations up front and understood. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM TIBURON'S NO MATTER HOW NICE THEY SEEM TO BE.

    BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

Ya, I've been fishing with Garcias Pangas for at least 8 years if not more. They are good men, and not too worried about getting screwed by them. Fishing with them this fri and sat, hope to get offshore and find some paddies, and if the weather isn't terrible, maybe make a run for the tuna hole....

This is the third time I hear bad comments about "TIBURON". I guess 3 peolpe can't be wrong!! I've got to re-consider my plan. I hear that the weather is not going to be that good this weekend. I was heading down on Thursday but might have to re-consider that too..
