Looking to pick up two 300 size bait casting reels, low profile or round, using them for Calico / YT action. (I should mention I have a Lexa 400 I recently bought ) Whatcha got ? I’ve been out of the game enough to see there’s so some good 💩 out there across the board with all kinds of various price points and features - $350 per reel max if that works 🤟

Curado 300e if you already have a 400 size but I wouldn’t fish calico over 5lb on a 300 size reel. Yellowtail either

TranX 300, Lexa 300, Curado 300, NaCl 50 all work for me. I caught YT and YFT on the TranX last year on a 10 day. I’ve used the Calcutta TE300 on 10 day trips too.

For the $700 budget I'd pick up a used Tranx 500 and an Okuma Komodo.
Was looking at the Komodo. How does that compare to the Lexa ?

The Tranx 400 is a small reel, it'll suit your needs just fine and you'll get plenty of line capacity.

All the 300 size LP's will serve you good but with your budget I would definitely go for the Calcutta 400D. The Calcutta 400D is the Cadillac of baitcasters.

I can just buy one I guess and spend more on one reel and pick up the 2nd in a couple weeks - but I recentky bought two rods and want to pair them up with new reels at the same time 😅

I use a curado 300 for plastics and/or leadheads with squid. Calicos, wsb and yellows love the candy bait. Obviously, keeping fish away from kelp and rocks is key.

Don't leave out the 300 DSV. Still the komodo 364 is great and yes the lexa 400 (which I have) is great. I really don't see a bad reel in the bunch. Price wise your two are likely the lowest. The lexa 400 probably has the most caught to its name

So really you should tell us which two rods you bought and asking which reels would match up best with them.
Some rods match up better with a particular size.
Lexas, komodos, and Tranx are all outstanding reels with proven track records.

The Komodo comes with a clicker.

It's just personal choice on which you like.
    They're all good

Don't. They need to work on those reels. They preform pretty good, caught a 50-60lb bft in 30 mins with 30lb with the 450. Handle bent inward though and the paint job is worst in it's class. Also when the reel is full to the brim it likes to collect more in the middle and doesn't give any line to the sides.

    I would go lexa 400
Unless you fish in bay and off peirs like me, then clicker is a good feature to have.

I've had 0 issues with all 3 of my komodo's. Now the issue you have with the komodo bunching up in the middle is exactly what my lexa does lol

Interesting. I did mention it to okuma and they said it was not normal but the coating problem was on both of mine, I don't like scratches. I like the performance though, internally it looks like a tesoro. They cast bait very well too. Handled the bluefin better than me.

Picked up the Komodo SS 463P loaded with 300yards 50# Izor - they didn’t have the tranx. But trying to source a tranx 400 before Sunday. Then I’ll have all 3 brands 😂
