Don't have time to write it all but-- UC rods and Okuma Makaria and Penn VISX reels. Lots of spectra and fluro. Still my Accurate ATD's and Calstar 770 and 775 series along with Seeker 1-4 OSP's. The Wahoo stuff is pretty similar for years. ENJOY. There will be lots more posts I'm sure :)

The stuff at the lower end is what really interest .
me. I have been questioning the need to take anything under 40lb.
Also trying to figure out if I should take a 50lb surface iron outfit instead of a 40 lb

Depends if you are a specialist or not. I like to muti-task a rig so I have less stuff to deal with. My one lighter tackle rod on a 14 plus day trip is an Avet SX Raptor with 50 lb. braid that I use for catching bait, throwing wahoo bombs and bait and any other need from 20 - 50 lb. test. Lots of good options our there that would fill this slot. Penn has several worth looking at.

Amy and I are heading out October 2 for a 10-day on Intrepid. This is a "Variety Trip"; may not be similar to your adventure...

At the lower end I am bringing:
    • Shimano Game Type "J" 624 paired with a Van Staal VR 200 filled with 50# braid. Fun combo with good action on medium weight Flat Side-style jigs, and a "whatever" rig for Amy to use for Dorado etc.
    • 8'0" OTI Tuna Sniper paired with a Saragosa 25000 loaded with 500 yards of 80# braid, to fish poppers, stick baits, and possibly Wahoo Bombs. Amy may also use this for Surface Iron
    • 7'6" UC Tilefish Jr paired with a Penn Torque 25 nld2. Strong 30# flyline rig
    • 8'0" UC US Terminator paired with a Penn Torque 30/2 for 40# flyline
    • 7'6" UC Predator paired with a Penn Fathom 40 nld2 for irons and 50# flyline
    • 8'0" GP Terminator paired with a Mak 15T SEa for Iron and 60# flyline or sinker rig
My Heavier Stuff consists of a UC Centaur/Mak 16 and a UC Viper/Mak 20. Fun!

    Good luck!

Latest rig is a Talica 25, with low gear changed to 1.6/1, rod is Calstar 7465M. For years have used Calstar 7460H, with Penn 30SW/ 50S/ 50SW. I got a 214 on the Talica last year fishing the Star at Tres Maria’s. Worked like a charm.

Bring both 40 and 50 for iron. Always good to have back-up.
