An 8 day, 19-27 and we have some company, three other boats departing for 7-8 day trips, the day before, same day and the day after. Anticipating a run south to try the Rocks for Yellowfin and Wahoo. Then probably pop over to the Ridge for more Yellowtail and maybe a Grouper. I’m sure the Captains will figure out the game plan and position us for optimal catching, minimal pressure on those Wahoo.

Excel 8 day 18-26
Spirit 7 day 19-26
Royal Star 7 day 20-27

As Pro Staff for Tanqueray and Schweppes I’ll be called upon to represent. Huge responsibility, hope I’m still up to the task. ;)

Most if not all of the long range boats work together and try to do a schedule so all do not jump on the rocks at the same time. this has been going on for a long time. so you may have one boat for company.

the wild card is the private yacht(s) thatmay be there. hope you have it too yourself. At thestart of Aug the wahoo were keying on on live bait and we worked thru the YFT bites to get at the wahoo.

Some were taken on colt sniper ish lures, not really any bombs working. Not many on the troll either. We were the third boat going thru the rocks.

Hope you get a hurricane in the distance to keep the weather greasy calm for you out there. Wewere a 6 day trip that bombed down as Guadalupe was closed. It was a greart call as we did well with just 2 days down south.

Have fun Steve. I'm leaving the day before you, on the X. Tanqueray Ten, I hope.
My wife has us all stocked up on Tanqueray Rangpur, a subtle taste of lime.

First report from the current 8 day on the Angler shows a few pictures with smiles and Yellowfin. One Yellowtail pic but no Wahoo. Wonder if maybe they start on the Ridge.

Good luck Steve! Let me know if you want to try out our heavier prototype JRI wahoo bombs. 6.5 oz and 7.5 oz

Hey Steve, super stoked to fish with you this trip. I was going to bring some whiskey, but now you got me thinking I need to bring some Sapphire! Do we have any cigar smokers on this trip?

I’m sure there will be. Cigar smoking seems to go along with killing tuna. ;)
Looking forward to fishing with you, too. Intel on current trip is that they skipped Alijos Rocks, fished the Ridge then moved up to San Pablo for Yellowtail. Guess they’re going to finish up on the Bluefin.

Today I’m going to retool the tackle I have packed. Guess I’ll fine tune, have too much Wahoo gear and need to add a heavy to drop on the Bluefin.

    Perfect, I'll bring some along.
I will be seeing Pat tomorrow at the dock, so I'll get on the ground intel to see if I have to adjust the load out. Bringing a Mak30, should be plenty for those bluefin.

    Yeah,
There's always a few cigar/cigarette smokers on board.
Even though it's covered in the seminar and it's posted outside, there is NO SMOKING just outside the salon doors. Doesn't seem to matter. They do it anyways.

The reason that they don't want you smoking in that area is that the smoke is pulled into the salon when the boat is traveling. They even smoke there while we're having dinner. Can you imagine eating dinner and having to smell that cigar smoke?

And then at the end of the trip you will find all your gear stored in the rack covered in ashes

On a trip when I had quit smoking, a guy (that guy) stood right next to me on the rail, smoking a stogie. Very little breeze, just enough to send his exhaust into my face. I asked him to move, I was soaking a bait, he was just smoking. He refused, I reeled in and pinned on a fresh bait.

I’ve started smoking again and try to be very respectful of others.

Brother....I tried to quit on a 16 day trip. Both me and the "Bald man" Skipper were both trying at the same time. It was hilarious.... with both us us looking for the other. We brought 1 carton (10 packs) for 2 people... for 16 days.

Needless to say.... we both laughed so hard.... as we hit the dock.... Frank paid for bothof our packs... and sent me right away....didn't even.unload tackle yet....lol. Smokers....worse than crack.
