I fished the UC RCE Wahoo 8' last year with a TRQ 25N Star and LOVED it. 50lb. mono. I fished jigs only though, no bombs.

I fish both a US Wahoo 8’ and a US Tilefish 8’ with a Tranx 500 HG, they are light to hold and easy to fish. Throwing bombs all day is taxing, I went to these rods because of their lightness with the Tranx. They have more than enough backbone to keep Wahoo hooked so I no plans to change to something else.

I like the Tilefish but my favorite bomb rod is the Phenix psw809xhj with my TranX 500 hg.

All depends on your method of fishing bombs and what else you might fish with it. Unless you just have to have a nice UC rod I would look at an Okuma PCH Custom 7', 7'6" or 8' XH. If you might also use this rig for fly lining bait to tuna than a more refined UC rod would be in order. Definitely want to be using 50 lb. at a minimum.

I have both the Phenix 809XHJ and the UC Wahoo. The Wahoo is stiffer at the tip. I prefer the UC for my style of fishing. Both work well if you point the rod at the bomb on the retrieve. I consider both too light for Raider type jigs.

a million choices depending what feels good to you. Remember that when a Wahoo is hooked you do not pump and grind the rod. You point the rod at the fish and grind the reel like a wrench.

I’m giving the US85 Wahoo a shot this year. GP80 Monster or Terminator would be a great choice as well. Light, and lots of powah

I like the Monster, Terminator, Tilefish 80, and the Phenix 809 XHJ for wahoo fishing. As Lou pointed out, you won't put a lot of bend in the rod- just point and reel. Pull on some and see which you like. You're secondary question, 40 or 50# line, definitely use at least 50. Crank your drag way tight.

Good Evening OD,

Depending on your price range absolutely look at the new United Composites RGP 76 Predator, RGP 80 Terminator, RGP 80 Predator and RGP 80 Monster...You will not believe how light and powerful these rods are... AMAZING... My suggestion is to NOT look at solely a Wahoo Bomb Rod as You can use most any properly rated rod for the task..

Once you develop a Wahoo fish fighting technique using bombs, which is simply point the rod at the fish and crank efficiently with high drag settings, you will find it is not rocket science.. The Rods I noted can all be used for a variety of uses other than Wahoo Bombs such as live bait or appropriate artificial work for 10 day and under trips along with great usage for local Bluefin, Yellowfin and big Yellowtail..

Choose a rod whose feel and line ratings meets your other needs besides Wahoo... As a note, I prefer casting short 100 pound test leaders when fishing with Bombs so stiffer rods do not bother me at all.. In fact I prefer them as I want the Skin on the boat Fast... Little to no runs so I like the heavier string. I do not feel the 100 pound gets bit any worse than 50 when using bombs and I can pull a whole lot harder when hooked up. Some folks use doubled up 50 pound while others fish 50 or 60 pound for Wahoo bombs..Personal choice.. Best of luck in your decision..

Have a great season.

Jamie

Lot's of great thoughts and suggestions on which rod to choose. I have an 80 Terminator, 80 Predator and the new RGP 80 Monster which I have not fished yet to be transparent. My go to wahoo bomb and jig throwing sticks are the Calstar 875H. I have 2 just for this purpose.

You're not going to go wrong any way you go in all honesty. Wahoo rods ar elike wives to fisherman. We all have our own tastes and opinions and we all get it done with what we have
