Got to pull on all three rods and really dig the softer tip of the predator 80 and tilefish 80. The terminator was stiff. Plan to get one of these blanks wrapped to fish 50/60 on a Talica 12. Would love to hear the pros and cons of all three blanks. Looking for an all around solid 50/60 rod. Thanks in advance.

I don’t think I’d fish 60# on the Tilefish, I use it for 50# and some use 40#. I have the Predator 76 and use it for 60# but I could drop to 50 on it. I think the Pred 80 is even more powerful than the 76. No experience with the Terminator.

I have the terminator and the 80 predator, love them both. I use the Terminator for 30lb to 40lb and fish 60lb on the Predator.

I probably go a little light on the Terminator but it’s a bait rod and I can adjust up or down. The Predator for me is a great 60lb bait stick paired with either my Mak 15 or Penn Torque 40nld2

Yo CM,

All the rods you have listed, along with the rods noted by the various thread responders, are great choices. However, at the line rating you are requesting there is more to the United Composites rod choice than meets the eye. Depending on your targeted species as well as if you are going to fish more 60 than 50 or visa versa, Your decisions might change.

You might put more into the decision making. Add in a few technique variations from angler to angler and you will find one person's gold is another person's... Well, not as good a gold product..

We also have the brand new United Composites RGP versions of the Rods and blanks you have in question which I will be writing up soon. More Expensive but certainly worth looking into. More on the way.

If you have any additional questions or want to come in to the shop, perhaps I can help show you how to make your own decisions and how to compare the nuances of each rod you are considering.. You are welcome to PM me for further questions or to chat by phone... It's up to you. Hope to chat soon.

I use the 76 Predator for 60lb paired with a Mak15 awesome setup, I am having the Tilefish wrapped in the coming weeks and will fish 40/50, the guys who commented nailed it with their suggestions.

The US 80 Predator is Absolute Beast if a Rod! A Must in any Saltwater anglers ARSENAL. I've fished it with a Penn Torque 40nld2 and a JX raptor but my favorite reel on it is a Accurate Dauntless 600n. BADASS Set up in my opinion.

The US 80 Predator is a perfect 60# stick. I have it paired with Talica 12. I used this combo to kill 140# bft. It lifted the fish in 25 minutes.

Predator 80 and predator 76 are made on two different mandrills 80 being the heavier rated of the two. Prefect 50/60 blank where as the 76 is more a 40/50 #
Terminator is the combination of the monster and the predator with the softer monster top end and the bottom end shut off power of the Mighty 80 predator ..badass Blank!!

I Really Do love the U.C. lineup for most every application.. With the introduction of the RGP series into the mix, we anglers have even more distinct choices... This 50 - 60 Pound test range, with even more ability to fully fish the 60 pound on one rod, has taken another step forward...

I have always loved the 76 Predator for slightly heavier work than the 80 Predator but that is a very personal feel sort of deal.

You will really want to pull on a couple of these RGP versions, compare them to the Blanks or Rods You are considering, so that you can come to your own conclusions about what a 50 - 60 pound rod is or is not. If you come to the shop when I am there, you might even get an additional thought on how to more efficiently and effectively pull on these rods to maximize your energy and technique..

With that said, You are welcome to contact me by PM about the BOB SANDS TACKLE SALE I will be announcing shortly as this will be your best opportunity to get these amazing rods and blanks at the YEARS LOWEST PRICING...

Stay tuned.

I fish my UC 7'6" Predator for 60, 8' Predator for 50, 8' Terminator for 40. Like a pair of shoes, the subject is pretty subjective.
Hi kingsize,

If you use term 8’ for 40, where would US80 Monster go?
what reel do you have on the terminator?

Thanks,

hi dan
Torque 12 is star drag?

i have a talica 12ii and saltiga 40a. Which would be better for the 8’ term?
Hello, yes it's a star drag, 50lb solid spectra to 30lb topshot. I would go with the Talica, I don't know much about the Saltiga though so it might be fine

I'm actually thinking about getting another Terminator and putting a Torque 15xnld2 on it

I put the TRQ15xnld2 50lb prospec on my Monster, have not fished it yet but I think it's going to be a good combo. I may go down to 40 on the reel. If Penn has a trq12xnld it's news to me.

Happy New Year Nate,

You are welcome to call me or PM me to discuss... After a ton of testing these GP series of rods and blanks, I definitely have my favorites.. There is a couple of blanks or factory rods in the series that will be perfect to fish alongside the CX 80 Raptor without overlapping the tasks... I will be writing my opinions here in a few weeks.. Talk soon.

Fished my 80 Terminator on a 15XNLD2 last year on the NLA picked up some 40-50lber BFT no sweat. Penn was rigged with 50lb ProSpec. Rod is a little on the faster action side which I’m still getting used especially for a UC.
