    Hi guys,

I want to replace my Seeker Blacksteel 6480H for tossing surface iron to yellows on my long range trips. Must be 8 foot not longer. Surface iron only not heavy jigs. I throw a FTH25N Star drag with 75 yrds 40# mono. Love the reel just kinda tired of the rod and want to look into other options. What is the right UC rod for this in your opinion? If not UC, what other 8' rods would be your choice? Phenix Black Diamond 809XHJ?, etc.? Thanks

US monster or a CE monster. The CE has a lighter tip. I have a 900CE and love it for jigs

CE Monster. I also replaced a Seeker 6480 with it.

I throw iron and bombs with a Phenix psw809xhj when a 9'er just doesn't fit the bill.

    Isn't the D8 more of a 30lb. stick?

How about a RUC711XH? It’s the Swimbait Fanatic version of the Tilefish.

Your 6480H is about as close to a D8 in a Black Steel as you will find...the 6480H shuts off faster than a D8 that is a sucky rod :)
When you decide what rod to replace your 6480H with please let me know if you decide to sell the Black Steel.....compared to all the rods most of the experts suggest it pretty much sucks for fishing so I'll buy it because I pretty much suck at fishing so it would be a great fit ;)

I use an 8' UC CE 8000 Wahoo rated (40 - 60) for tossing surface irons and smaller jigs like the Tady AA on 40# with a Trinidad 20a. I compared side by side with a gentleman with a Seeker Ulua and I could cast as far as him... I haven't fished the UC CE Monster, Del Mar or anything else I have to go on is the CE Wahoo and it works for me on tuna and tails up to #30

I pulled on a lot of UC rods at Fred hall this year. I understand why people like them now.
I ended up purchasing the SIC 8’6” surface iron rod rated 40-60. It seemed like a good compromise. I do the like the DelMar 8’. Been thinking about that with one of my 40NLD2s.

    I fish G6480, G6480H and CE Monster 800.

6480H for megabaits and snipers. Monster for pretty much every surface iron.

    6480 is bait stick.

I would buy another Monster. I might do a Delmar or Wahoo instead.

The Monster is fantastic. Be prepared to build up the butt for a clamp. These are skinny light powerful rods.
