This thought was going through my head today as well. I got this fish when the bluefin showed up early on the slide on a single speed with a ss ulua. I dont want to go through that again. Was thinking an avet jx raptor 6/3 or something with a 8' stick.

On a jig stick? Zing pow!!!!!!! And another $15 jig donated to the deep sea! Give me a little forgiveness please.

Also, unless you are a very good and strong caster and have large hands, get the Tranx, less tangles means more fishing time and more fish.
    ZING POW....LMAO

I took my JX raptor and strapped it to my 9e and did some casting with a Tady 45,,, marginal at casts best. I then took that same setup with a 2.6 oz coltsniper and proceeded to cast out about 75 yrds with zero overrun.
Im thinking of putting together a GP85 monster with a MXL Raptor for larger models like this. JX seems to be a bit tall. We'll see.

Thing is this was my first triple digit on a long rod. It stayed maybe 200 feet from the boat at all times. Dove to the thermocline and stayed there a solid 30 minutes. Came up once saw the boat dove back to it and sat there. I used a torium 40
