So we caught another Mantis Shrimp in Long Beach today. Never caught one this far north before, and now two in a week. We messed with him and got him to strike twice, but not on camera. Guess he had stage fright. Dr Bob will post the report, since he caught most of the fish. Bastard.

I just came in here to verify that the shrimp jumped a K Man plastic poured lure. Leaving satisfied.

Is that a GoPro on it's head ? Seems like everybody's using those things these days.

Saw my first one a few weeks ago. Hit a live sardine on a dropper loop. Thought I had a small bass or something. But he let off right as I got him to the boat. I heard they taste great?

One of our passengers was extremely grossed out by it and didn't want to keep it. Didn't know they were good eatin!!!

No worse than lobsters, they are all bugs. At least mantis shrimp actively catch & eat live things. Lobsters just clean up dead stuff from the seafloor, now that is gross!

Can you tell a bit about the 3 Way swivel rig you’re using?

Back in the early 80s we caught a bunch of them in Santa Monica Bay drifting for halibut with anchovies.

No laughing now....lmao When we had the saltwater tank, it was BIG. We always bought / kept "unique" specimens. Mantis.... octopus .... various sharks.... etc

Sure enough..... 4th of July party... someone had too many beers... would be tapping at the glass.... pestering the shark. So...He loudly claimed he could "bite the head off.... before that mantis shrimp knew what hit him"!! You know what happened next....lol.

Long story short....that clown almost lost his right pinky finger.....AND that mantis shrimp got flung.... then"stepped" on. I was PISSED! About the Mantis..dammit.

Yes, in 83' in Okinawa. Got me in my pionter finger. Cut it to the bone. Bleed alot. Still got the scar.
A few years back I took 5 of em home and cooked em, royal pain in the ass.Not a big piece of meat like a shrimp or lobster,it might look like it ,but its about 10 sections in each piece, you have to pick at it like you would a grape fruit after you cut it in half. definitely not worth it. a rock crab or dungy is alot easyer to reap the bebefits, wont try that again

Used a beer can instead of finger , then used the beer can as a watering device
