Well, I wouldn't recommend 7.5's.

A lot of people spend a lot of money on high dollar shooting pieces, but then skimp on ammo, seems a bit odd to me, but to each their own...

I'm using left over goose loads, 3.5" Hevishot 2's. Good payload and density. You should be good with some hot loads in 3" 4's, but I think the smaller the payload, you should at least pattern your setup. You don't "need" marketed turkey loads, but they're specialized for a reason. And if you're doing it right, it's not like your going to shoot more then a handful of rounds for the season. A small expense in the grand scheme of turkey hunting IMO.

I've used 3' # 6 lead shot for years and only missed once.Of course it was only days after giving a friend a hard time for missing. If you buy a box of ten and you have three really good turkey hunting years you might still have one left.
I wouldn't worry to much about the size of shot ,if you put the middle of the neck in your sight it only takes a pellet or two to kill them(if you run
and help with a boot on the neck!)
That reminds me of a funny story. When a buddy of mine shot his first bird i was just around a corner when Iheard the shot.I jumped up and saw the tom flopping.
I yelled to step on its neck.....
He kind yelled back"It dosen't have one any more!"

so don't let them get too close! he shot it at three yds.

No good! No shot bigger than #4 can be used for turkey... the Fish And Game will check your shells if they check you out!! Also... only 3 shells in your gun...... Good luck!

Actually, it's more like your gun can only have the CAPACITY to hold three shells. Big difference that I learned the hard way on my first San Diego turkey hunt. My fault and I paid for it. I only had 3 shells with me, period, but the Warden checked my gun and it didn't have a plug (not required where I bought the gun).
