Not about first for me it is the all the factors I need to go- Day off, small swells, wind no more than 5-15, no more than 50 miles, blue water, warm water, hopefully fish but just a decent shot at them works, no full moon unless good fish counts, last a last minute crew member the toughest to fill sometimes.
. I quit being a weekend tuna fishermen. These line up I have to try and get day off. If I am lucky I get 5 trips in a year. Waited 2 months before for these things to line up for me.
Tuna fishing in a small boat 101.
Conditions pretty close now, Blue water just barely opening up inside.

    Dave,

Just got a call from Last Toy. Outside of the 451 had good conditions some bait and no fish. # other boats in the area with the same report. A little north wind and hopefully the breaks will get a better defined edge. I still may run tues out to Davidson.

I think it will be at least a couple more weeks for a more consistent temp break. I am ready to go when things look right.

Crap- right where I was thinking. Guess I will wait. Thanks I can't run much farther than that. Not many good commercial reports either.

    Dave,

You are welcome to jump on with me if you like. I will not be running charters until the first fish are caught. I have plenty of range. Looking at a 2 day recon mission with Don from Big Bite and one other Capt. Send a PM if your interested. This will be a shared cost trip. I burn 50-60 gal in 24 hrs running time. Hold 380 gal. If you got the time, ive got the range. 8knt cruise speed. 9 hrs to Davidson.

Has anyone looked at the temp and chloro shots today? It looks solid out there. 62 degrees at the 601 and pretty clear looking. 451 looks decent too but not quite as clear on the chloro shot.

I do think that 37.07.71 and 125.12.03 could potentially be holding the best shot at some albies. That is about 131 nm from half moon bay. I figure this water (if the weather cooperates) could push in within about a month or month and a half. As for further south along the Morro Bay/PSL area, out 5-10 nm past the Davidson looks the best right now. Still not a good upwelling or clean water out at the donut yet but hopefully in a month or so it will start to shape up a little bit better.

I just saw a post in the Washington Section of BD about tuna. Maybe something will get started up north, zero Albacore, not even a sniff this year in san Diego..

    Good luck
