Well, we finally made our first tuna run in the new Wildcat. We kept an eye on the SSTs and Chloro shots through Satfish and decided we’d prospect nw on Friday. If we didn’t like what we saw, we’d head sw on Saturday.

Got the boat ready to go and met our veteran, Eric, at 0530. Stopped by the bait dock for 2 boxes of frozen chovies and off we went. 7 adults, 60 gallons of water, and 800# of ice. Buoys showed 4-5’ and 9 seconds or so. The bar was FOGGY and sloppy so we rolled 16-23 mph until a few miles west of the sunken jetty. Then it was 22-27mph for the most part. About 40 miles out, we picked up to around 30-34 mph. Had a few waves that I completely missed and the crew let me know about em 😂. Had a few others that I just ran wrongly and slapped good too. But, over all, I felt pretty good. Certainly knew it was going to take a little time learning how this girl likes and doesn’t like to be handled.

We stopped about 5 miles from our mark to keep some terns, logs, and small kelp honest…nothing hiding underneath. Once we got to the X, troll gear was deployed (6 dang rods, ugh) and everyone was on duty. Didn’t take too long for the first reel to scream. Anabsolute monster albacore…almost big enough for an entire sushi roll, almost 😂

We regularly marked fish around 75’. We made casts at more logs as we trolled by. We threw chum as we blocked our troll area. We worked hard. Many white claws died.

It was slow. We picked up 4 for the day, liked the size of the 3 others, and felt good about the presence of more of em in that size. We called it at noon, since we had 80 miles to get home and had some chores to finish to be prepared for tournament day. Burned 128 gallons for the day.

Saturday was a much better ocean. About as calm as could be for the first 3rd, then had a bit of a washing machine with the ssw wind and wnw swell arguing. The Star Spangled Banner was sung over the radio just before the shotgun start. It was AWESOME!!! Countdown went from 5 to go and off we all went.
Seemed like the other 21 boats all went sw, while we pointed nw. The start video will be shared later 👍🤣👍 Team Fortunate is fast!

we did a repeat of Friday, except we only killed 2 good fish, 1 small, 1 smaller, and then 1 smallererer…. Ended up with 80#. Not a great showing, but sure did have a blast.

Oh yeah, a couple highlights…
1) the new ride was awesome. Crew mentioned things feeling slow at times, then seeing 27 mph on the MFD 😂. Also was told things felt a bit bumpier than expected, and then they saw 34-38 mph on the MFD.
2) the whole crew tried to punk me while I was having a sit down bio-break. Reels and crew screaming “we’re on, we’re on”…. Bastards.
3) we were about 15 miles into the run home Saturday. Two crew bean bagged and shut-eyed. The other 4 nodding off. Dead calm water…. I’m doing 35 mph getting just over 1.1 mpg!!! I scream JUMPERS JUMPERS, while all but killing the motors. All 6 crew are up, grabbing rods, yelling jumpers, asking where, WHERE???? I laugh my ass off and kick myself for not having the Raymarine camera on record mode!!! Paybacks are a bitch folks! Not sure anyone was able to sleep the rest of the run in😂😂😂😂

Yelling jumpers when you are the only one not resting makes the run that much faster. Anything helps lol. Nice boat!

I took a swing down 10 today:). That is the design I’d go with if I had the inclination to buy an aluminum cat! Plenty roomy inside and out with a nice walkaround. Nice boat! How’s the performance?

HOw did I miss seeing this?

Fun read L2. I've been slow while prepping for Archery Elk Sep 11-24 but the E side fires are closing the woods and not forecast to be contained in time....

Hoping for a Tuna run Thursday

Excellent performance. Seeing 1-1.3 mpg wtc, depending on doing 25 or 44 mph :)
