What is the appeal of the Truline blank, I recall seeing these in the ‘80s rated like 10-80lb - aren’t they heavy (to hold all day)?

Phenolic resin fiberglass rods are making a big come back with the fly guys right now. So, there is nothing inherently heavy about the construction. If you take a CJBF8 Seeker, for example, and compare it to an ORD8 you might find the D8 weighs a little less.
Thick walls were an attempt to control the tapper and improve the strength. Roddy and Fenwick did it as well. Truline came up with the Octagon and tried Graphite in the mid 70's- the latter being a resounding failure.
