Here in the Cabo area you can catch, rooster fish almost year around but for the most part, those are smaller 5 to15 pound fish. typically, mid may to mid June we start to see our bigger trophy sized rooster's.

We had a group of clients today that had never caught rooster fish and that was our target species. They also wanted to try to catch some bottom fishing for dinner. I ran up to the San Jose area to get the better live bait and we ended up buying about $70 worth of the bigger baits and some really nice sardines.

We went to the area that they typically show up in the early part of the season. Sure enough as we pulled and we can see it,big roosters feeding on the surface. The clients wanted to hook there fish and we let them try, but there were having a really hard time fishing the bigger baits. I finally said enough of this ,we need to get some fish hooked up.

so me and my Capt. mate Caesar hooked up a few for the anglers. We ended up releasing about five or six. The biggest going 50 pound one went 30 pounds with a few others were in the 20 to 25 pound range. We lost several big ones. Right near the boat as we were fishing fairly light, leaders and the fish chewed through the line. also had several Jack crevalle released.

After a few hours of rooster fish. The guys wanted to meat fish, so we ran to an area with the pargo ( snapper) had been biting pretty good. We ended up using the life sardines for the snapper and got can the boat with about half that many lost in the rocks.

if any of you are coming to Cabo area in the next few weeks. I highly suggest you give these trophy rooster's a shot as they are incredible fighting fish and a true pleasure to see them, chasing bait behind the boat.

As usual, we were using all Okuma tackle. Mainly the Okuma Andro's 12 in 5 with 30 pound P line 40 pound Segar flooro carbon.

it's been a while since I posted here on bloody decks but I hope to get back into the flow of the posted more reports here in the near future

    here's a few pics of today's fishing/

I can't believe they took those fish out of the water. By doing so the mortality rate goes way up when returned to the water. Idiots.
