Just keeping the bluefin tuna rumors stirred up.
Over the years I’ve only seen 1 … 20# bluefin caught on the troll and that was on two large 2 oz each stacked in tandem Mexican flag feathers.
But on my last trip I saw two caught on the troll …
One was on a 160mm Nomad madmac orange mackerel color…
Both lures were trolled way back…
I’ve since been asking around and you can’t purchase the larger 220mm in damn near any color …. So it seems like this technique’s been working for smaller 🐟
I don’t want to be standing at the rail with a trolling outfit and targeting small 🐟
Question ? Has anyone heard of the larger say 100#+++ being caught on the troll using this type of lure ?
Spoke with a guy yesterday and him and his buddies have been going out of Ensenada targeting 🐟 and limiting out trolling the 240mm Madmac's on a smaller grade of 🐟

Yes, a 90, 90 and 100 lb caught on the 200 madmac in purple. Trolling way back. One fish bit on the sink as we approached a foamer

Thanks I stand corrected 160-200-240 grams
Correct ?
Just remembered the other guy got bit on that purple with the pink fish bone pattern.
Don’t think it makes much difference …
I’ll bet that pattern in sardine or mackerel would work…
How are you attaching your main line to the Madmac ?
I’m an old wahoo troller, but I see no need for a harness.
Any secretes you’ve found that helps the lure run true ?
Pound text that’s attached to the lure, etc.
I’m pretty sure I saw them trolling back maybe 50 yards+-
What about a trolling speed preference ?
Says the Madmac’s will track at 5-20 knots ?
Just curious … I might learn something new … thanks

The first fish ate the MadMac deep into the gullet; the 80 lb fluoro line was chaffed. After that trip, we started rigging with 135 mono tied to a swivel. On the next trip we caught two with that rig.

We were trolling over 100 yards back of the 60 hp. I'm thinking, the bigger the wake the further back you need to troll.

The Madmac is well engineered. If you get a chance, look at the self centering design. We don't have any problems keeping the 200 tracking. The 160's pop when we were running 15 mph and going down swell. If we are going cross swell it seems to track ok.

This is the kind of info I’m looking for …
Yeah I’ve checked them out … they are a well designed trolling lure … I’ve got lots of wahoo trolling lures, but they are large.
But I have two older marauders in the 8”-10” length I think.
Ones a Tony the Tiger and the other is that bright purple with bright pink tiger stripes. It’d work, but will it track ?
Only one way to find out …
Yeah on my last trip we spotted lots of foamers, but they’d sound if approached … trolling back a 100 yards you could circle and drag your lures much closer…
Have fun … I’d wish you luck 🍀 but I see you make your own luck. Have you tried any large billed trolling lures ? Thanks for the info

The size is in millimeters. 160mm, 200mm, 240mm etc. it’s the length of the lure not the weight.
I have a 160 in mackerel that I’ve been pulling for awhile. I’ve had one noticeable strike that didn’t stick and it was 100ish yards back and 11-12mph.

They work great in any color 200mm size straight outta the box or with a 5/0 treble on the back. Trolled 200yards back at 11-14 knots straight braid rp knot connection or wind on 80-130 mono or floro tied or crimped to the bait. Heard of blind strikes but all our fish this year on a mad Mac have been while circling visible fish, passing over meter marks or circling birds. All fish have been 100# plus on my boat and have buddies with fish from 60# and up to 200. First trip we connected on these baits we lost two of them which happened to be our only two. The fish where still around wnd actually showing the best of the day after we lost them. We tried DTX minnow, murrader, feather, and cedar plug to no avail. Something about that mad Mac makes the fish angry or just have to bite it.
