JUST PICKED UP A TRINIDAD GOLD REEL. MY QUESTION , IS THERE ANY PREP FOR THE SPOOL PRIOR TO PUTTING BRAID ON THE SPOOL?? I PLAN TO LEAVE IT ON THE REEL FOR SOME TIME.
    THANKS

You should consider cleaning your braid annually: Run it through a wet wash rag onto another reel. You both clean the line and reverse it so you're fishing the unfished portion of the line. Really: I see lots of reels -- including Shimanos -- that have holes in the spool from braid caused corrosion. Corrosion-X or auto polish on the spool before filling it with line will help but the line still should be washed.

A top quality carnuba car wax. I apply it twice, letting it sit on there 24hrs before buffing it off each time. Had no good results from corrosion x for this application.

I've had good results with Boeschield T9, on the spools I just spray it on and let it dry without wiping it off.

    I do the same.
Don't try to do this without opening reel and removing spool.
