    Evening Gents,

    Just a quick question!

    I have a Shimano Tranx500 HG on a Cousins 95 J-MAG (9ft 6in 30-60)

I have the opportunity to trade for a Silver Trinidad 30A?

Casting, birds nests and such is generally not an issue, which would ultimately be a better surface iron reel?
    Opine?

Can't speak about a 30a, but I can tell you the Tranx 500 is a phenomenal surface iron reel. I have a HG on my 9' UC Monster jig stick.

Ive cast it a few times and it feels great. I have a Trini 16 and 20 and also love them both. Not sure which route to take...

All these reels are basically the same internally. It boils down to whether you want a baitcaster with level wind or a conventional reel.

Keep the tranx. Level wind is a sure luxury.

I think it all comes down to preference.

You a great set up already especially with that rod! To me, the tranx does a great job and cast straight spectra with a 3 foot top shot of fluorocarbon but the Trinidad 30 probably cast 50lb and up better since wider spool. Just whatever you like throwing better. Great rod as well!

Any combo is a matter of personal preference. You might not like the 30a as it is a wider reel. When reeling in your jig, line might not line up correctly. I prefer the 20a or the 16a because of this. You'll experience a lot more torsion when fighting fish with the 30a vs the 20a.

Another preference is braid to short top shot or straight mono. I prefer straight mono which is why I fish the 20a. If you prefer casting braid, go with the Tranx.

Thanks for all the feed back guys! I ended up keeping my Tranx. I already have a Trini 20a on a Phenix BD 909HXJ. Just looking forward to pull on something heavy with it!

Great discussion. It all depends on the applicacation. Nothing beats a 30a with 50# mono and 7X sized jigs on bigger fish down south; good for skip jigging too. 20a is an all around workhorse for 40# mono from bass to yellows. Tranx is hard to beat with 30/40 mono for local fishing. Tranx is also fun with braid and fills a fun niche for wahoo bombs, poppers etc. If you ask me, you deserve both reels! BTW I also use the Tranx on the 909xhj with 80# braid for wahoo.

I have a TranX 500HG on the psw809xhj and the other on a psw909xhj. Both with 50# leaders and both great combos!

    What he said.

    True iron slingers, sling Trinidad’s.

I got 30a on my delmar with 50lb blue izor.

Slayed multiple bft in the 100lbs no problem.
