I was shown this video quite awhile back, and immediately wanted to share with others here on BD, but for whatever reason I decided to hold back.

Now in light of the cool and recent thread from Bud B titled "Memories from days gone by", it has pushed me back to realizing just how fast time really does slip by, and so I made the decision that this video of this great man really needs to be shared among fellow fisherman here on BD.

Many of you who have launched out of Mission Bay over countless years, and have fished off Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, or off Torrey Pines and Blacks, most likely have seen in the past, a man in an old inboard diesel center console Parker with a large roller on the bow and equipped for comersh fishing.......... this awesome hadworking man many of you have seen over the years is Lauro Saraspe...... A local fishing legend off our San Diego coast.

The Saraspe family is one of those very special families that you just realize soon after getting to know them a little...... just really good people!

I was very fortunate to know Lauros son Andy through my best friend growing up as kids, and in turn I was lucky enough to have spent just a little bit of time fishing with Andy & Lauro.

Just a really cool story about a really cool guy and his cool life & family.

It should play when you click where it says "watch on vimeo"??

    Watch and Enjoy!

Mike, I hate to say it, but I know how you feel about Laurel. Great video.

I had such a friend for too short a time in my life. A true man of the salt, tough, with a heart of gold. Such a good man, a once in a lifetime friend. I spent every available minute I wasn't working fishing with him. Your video caused some great memories, and a heart pang. These guys are lifes treasures.

    Thanks.

I remember that guy, mostly because of his boat.He was one of the few that was friendly and helpful to my partner and i in our first season of commercial lobster fishing. He picked up a few of our traps that had the buoys cut off and returned them to us.

Couldn't agree more, and thanks for that!

Yep, there's some people you run across through life, to where you really gotta admire who they are and what they are about, and then try to maybe put some of those cool traits into our own lives.

Thanks...... I thought so anyways, but then again, I've been blessed to know him and some of his family.... so maybe my opinion is a little biased :)

It really is a cool video though. It's like a cool short documentary..... it sorta has that Bruce Brown "Endless Summer" vibe to it. ;)

That's cool to hear, thanks for sharing that! Most definitely sounds like Lauro, that's for sure!

He worked hard, nearly every day on the water, and he fished for everything and was quite good & successful. He did all this often Solo as well, and right up until a few years ago, and then finally retired.
