Short trip report. Left the dock 6/13 @ 7PM. According to the Captain (Taylor) we were heading down the line 40 to 50 miles for the bigger models and ETA was 11:00 PM.

At 11:30 PM we were fishing. Everyone was fishing the jigs, 250g to 500g. I started with the SK 300g pink/glow, but by 1 AM we had 3 fish 60 lbs to 100 lbs and I didn't have a sniff yet. I switched from my 100 lb jig outfit to my 80 lb outfit with an SK 250g glow dot. At 1:30 AM I boated a fish that taped 172 lbs and that was the only fish I would land for the trip. The weather picked up this night and it was rocking.

At sunrise we had 8 fish total for the night. 1/2 90 lbs and unde and the rest 100 to 180 lbs. Lost at least that many to unskilled or under-gunned people.

Day fishing was tough. We stopped at least 100 times only to bag 8 additional fish with equally as many lost. Everyone fished the sinker rig, but I did not see one fish hooked on the new method sinker rig so I went back to the way we always did it. I got completely spooled on my 60 lb braid to 40 lb top-shot in 60 seconds. Couldn't even turn its head and POW! That's all she wrote.

Lots of fish out there, but you have to find the right school.

Good Luck

Thanks for the report. Sure is a humbling feeling to see and hear that line sing out never to be seen again.
I felt the rod load up while I was slow winding back to the boat to change out my bait. I shifted to full strike and wound to set the circle hook and the fish just turned his head south and put the after burners on. One straight blast that never stopped from full spool to empty in less than 60 seconds.

I waited for the pop high sticking the fish hoping I could turn his head, but no luck. I stared at the water thinking "What the F was that" then just shrugged my shoulders, LOL. Side plates on the Accurate were hot to the touch and in the rack she went.

Nice Fish Rusty.. and crazy story on the sinker rig spool job sea monster..
wonder if it was a BFT? even the 200-300 lbers don't usually make a straight spool shot .
