Hey guys,
Looking at this reel for my surface iron applications and what know what you guys suggest? I have a trini 16 and love it but also looking to add another reel to my arsenal.

thanks

I use both of them for surface. My preference is for the PG. The IPT is close to my old Newells and that cadence is burned into my brain.

What matters most to you ?
The HG will be faster do to having a 6.6.1 gear ratio vs the Pg at 4.6.1.
Hg you are getting 43” per crank and the the PG gets 30” per crank

The Newell 332-5 got 32” per crank. With the HG slow your cadence and with the PG step it up a little.

If that is the speed you want and if you don't need a level wind, you might consider the reasonably priced star drag Accurate Tern 500 (35 ipc) ..... for rippin' speed the 600xN offers 53 inches per crank...

53 is perfect for Wahoo bombs but over the top for YT, 3B's etc.

I have one of each and use both but I think you have to consider the iron you are throwing. Yes for most iron you need a fast retrieve cause you are looking for a reaction bite but there are some jigs which require a slower retrieve. I use the HG for most swimming surface reaction jigs and PG for popper, snipers and other jigs that don't require a fast retrieval. If you only get one to pick from I would def go with the HG model then adjust retrieval speed for each individual lure. Drawback is when you hook up with something bit on a long rod you would wish you had the lower gear ratio. Good luck
