    Hi all
Well i now have a Torium that has a nice crisp, clear and loud click, and it doesn`t bother me a bit.
The top photo is the standard reel and the bottom photo is obviously my modification.
I`m sure you guys don`t need any explanations, so i`ll just post the pics.
Kinda like having belt and braces.
I didn`t see any need to remove the wings on the pawl. I think they help to keep the pawl inline.
    cheers

the carbontex drag washers can given the trinidad and torium reels up to 25 pounds of drag. the single anti-reverse roller bearings will typically fail at drag settings of over 18 pounds, leaving the single ambassaduer-style dog to hold if the drags are deliberately set too high, if the stock dartanium drags stick, or if the anti-reverse roller bearing fatigues and fails. the fix that i was looking at was to stack two roller bearings in series, one on top of the other. this works nicely as well. it clicks, but it is by far the most reliable fix.

    nicely done, sir!

It is my understanding that the Trinidad DC pawl and spring is a drop in fix. May be easier.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing to my TN20s.
Where did you get the spring? Is it a stock product from another reel?

Nice clean mod there Greg. Wher did you get the parts?

Do you guys think there will be any pre-mature wear on the dog?

very interesting. i`ll have to check out the DC schematic.

    GET SOME
I got the spring from my box of old reel parts, don`t know exactly what it came off.

    BORN to FISH
I think the dog and ratchet are both stainless parts, so should wear OK
    Time will tell.

I'm trying to figure out if the DC parts fit as well. I have a message to Bantam, hopefully he gets back to me soon. But the schematics show changes in the dog, but the ratchet are the same. Also the drag washer between the ratchet and gear is larger. That could explain the jump to the 22.0lbs of drag.

    FINALLY!!
I have always thought the Torium 20 was the perfect jig reel except for the anti-reverse. Me and my buddy were just talking about doing this, you made it look easy.
Now it is the perfect jig reel!

Im tearing mine apart when I get home.....

    Thanks for the post.

So by doing this do you just get a louder clicker? Or does it disengage the Anti- Reverse completly?
I have a torium 14 and its my go to reel for my kelp fishing I love how light, smooth, and small it is. I have 50 lb spectra and 25 lb fluro top shot on it. But the anti reverse messes up on me time to time and gets me frustrated. So can I disengage this somehow? And should I upgrade to carbontex drags?
Muchos Gracias reel gurus I wish I could tear anything apart and be able to put it back together. I only can do it with animal cadavers.

It has nothing to do with the clicker. What it does it add a spring to the dog pawl and helps reinforce the contact and helps prevent slipping. If you're fishing 25lb topshots, i don't think you'll be anywhere near the range of risk. If you're fishing 40-50lb buttoned down on carbontexs (20-22lbs+ of drag) then this mod is probably necessary.

Just drop in the tn dc spring and dog on any to, or tn. This has been an automatic upgrade for the past year when we service these reels at the shop.

Yea Bantam has just gotten back to me and say their a direct drop in. He also said that the DC drag washers are now made with the same material as their 2 speed reels. You'll gain some performance, but not any more drag pressure. Not sure how that is possible since the drag washers on the ratchet is about 20% larger.

Alan, the Trinidad DC pawl and pawl spring is a drop in fix for the regular Trinidads and Toriums. part #s 1304 spring, and 1303 pawl. I'm guessing you need the pawl to work with the spring.....not just the spring working with the original pawl.

Although I have never had a single anti reverse failure in years of use/abuse (50#) in any of my Trinidads/Toriums, I went ahead and updated my reels with the DC pawl w/ spring. Easy, fast, simple upgrade. No worries now.
