We’ve been mulling over ideas for better rod storage. I think a few of these will be handy, and cheap. This is 12x30 and holds 14 rods. I’m going to do 3 more that’ll be 18x30 and hold 21 rods in 3 rows.

$8 in swivel casters from harbor freight. A sheet of 1/2” 4’x8’ sanded plywood is $50. That’ll give me 9 18”x30” tops/bottoms. Then 4 12” 2x4s and 2 30” 1x4s to block the bottom holes. Blocking the bottom holes keeps the reels from resting/rubbing against the wood.
Holes are made with a 1.75” hole saw. Each is 2” from the long sides and 3” from the front/back. 4” spacing.

Nice work. I’ve made similar to also accommodate fly rods or knuckle busters. On those just need to make one side of the upper holes into C’s open to the outside and run rubber bands across the openings to make sure they don’t tip/fall out.
Mine don’t have casters on the bottom but they may get added.

If you have lots of space in the shop, good idea.

For some, real estate is a premium. Your old wall mount with the PVC tubes gets the rods up off of the floor.

Erica must of cleaned your shop. Neat and clean! For most of us the SWMBO is banned from the shop. She has No say in the shop or fishing equipment.

That looks great! Thanks for sharing, I'm going to copy it, but a little smaller for my space available.

that's good spacing. i made something similar, but probably shoulda left a little more space for the mounted reels.

Spacing is certainly personal. First one had 5” between centers. That just wasted space. I only want 3 rows max so we can get to any of the rods without moving too many, of any at all.

Having it on wheels meant I had to have it high enough so the butts weren’t resting/dragging on the ground when moving. I initially failed at that, because 2 rod butts were longer than the rest…. Mounting the 1x4s under the bottom holes fixed that.

Then I had to shorten the 2x4s because a couple of the rods had shorter butt sections and the reel sat on the wood. That also meant that the rod could lean whichever way rather than standing nice and vertical.

I probably should have drawn it out on some graph paper or something, rather than trusting my brain to detail it out. Hahaha.

    Fun little project though.
