I'm starting to put together my line up for my upcoming Lupe Trip. I think its gotten out of hand. I'm up to 11 right now. Too many, right?:

    30 lb - MXL/2 - 885 ml
    40 bait - JX/2 - 6470H
    40 Surface iron - JX/2 - 90J
    50 Bombs - JX/2 raptor - 80XH
    50 bait - HX/2 - 6465H
    50 Iron - Trin 40 - 6470H
    60 bait - HX/2 - 765ml
    80 bait - HXW/2 raptor - 2x4
    100 bait - 30/2 - 6460XXH
    100 dropper - 30SW/2 - 6460XXH
    130 bait - 50SDS - 6463XXH

11 set ups - too many, right? Or just F*#k it, bring it?

I always curse myself when I have to break all the gear down on the last day and it takes forever.

u should take out a bait rod because you should be able to change out your floro leader, that is if you fish all braid with a 10ft floro leader.

That's a lot of gear! I see some redundancy there. Pick one, Avet HXW-2 Raptor will fish 80-100 lb. Either 100 lb dropper loop or 130, shouldn't need two. 30 lb probably not, those fish are big. Skip the surface iron, etc

Your trip, your gear. Bring it if you want. 5 day?

Mike, you have lots of nice gear, but you could not bring one of the 50 & 100/130 lbs. rigs listed and still be fine. Otherwise bring it all and determine for yourself afterwards what was necessary (taking into consideration every trip is different). You may be fishing other places than Guadalupe (so be prepared).

    Good luck on your trip!!

    - Jeff Burroughs

    Something similar to the following?...
    1. 30 lb - MXL/2 - 885 ml
    2. 40 bait - JX/2 - 6470H
    3. 40 Surface iron - JX/2 - 90J
    4. 50 jigs/bombs - JX/2 raptor - 765 ml
    5. 50 bait - HX/2 - 6465H
    6. 60/80 bait - HXW/2 raptor - 2x4
    7. 100/130 bait - 30/2 - 6463XXH
    Bring extra reels for back-up/options.

You can never have too many setups on a long range trip, especially out at Lupe. I'd say just bring it anyways. You never know what you will need. You can probably change the lines to match your applications but that'll take away your fishing time. 11 should be fine. All or nothing!

When I stopped by a local tackle shop to ask if a certain rig was appropriate for a certain trip the only answer I got was "maybe not, but if you need it and you left it at home you're going to be very unhappy". :D

Who is on the Nov 1st trip? I had 11 set ups, but have it at 9..... for now. Use the 50 bomb for surface iron if you have the desire.
    I have
1-40lb bait with a back up reel
    2-50lb bait
1-50lb for bomb/jigs if the need arises
    2-60lb bait
1-80lb bait with back up reel
    1-100lb bait
    1-100lb dropper loop.

I agree with Fishy.... I'm a tackle whore though, so, I'd probably swap out one of the 100# outfits to have a popper set up in there too... Lol... i would keep the 60# on the HX though, it'll be a go to yo-yo rig with those big shouldered yellers they got there,

I just re-counted rods-8, but packed 12 reels in the reel bag. Just need to refresh top shots. I did a bunch of 8 days in previous years and found I used the crap outa 3-4 rigs. everything else collected salt.

thats right. fuck it. bring it all. you'll be happier knowing you have it. my first 10 day trip i took 11 rigs.
    1 ea 30# bait
    2 ea 40# bait
2 ea drooper loop rigs that could have doubled for 50/60# live bait rigs
    1 ea yoyo rig
    1 ea lite iron
    1 ea heavy iron
    1 ea 80# live bait
    1 ea 100# live bait
    1 ea 100# live bait
i used them all except the 80, 100, and 130# live bait rigs. but if needed them, they were there. next trip in 2016 will be 14 rigs. adding 1 ea 30# and 2 each 40#.
My point is if you have the rigs bring them. you dont want to be fucking around re-rigging in the midst of a hot bite.
    have a great trip.
    Tex.

I'm trying to pair down from 28 for my January 14 day for me and my son. So 11 seems quite reasonable to me..:-) I'm in the fuck it, bring it all camp. Doesn't do you any good sitting in the garage. You leave it and you'll sure as hell wish you had it out there.

Bring it all. It's nice when everything is rigged, ready and a hot bite happens.
