Anybody have any experience with dental work in Mexico, specifically TJ?
Looking to have a crown done and they want $1,400.00 in SO.Cal and I see I can get it done for around $500.00 in TJ.
Any advise or recommendations?

Hola,

My Dad is a dentist, Dr. Mora. He has practiced in Chula Vista for over 30 years. His office is about 10 miles north of TJ and in the USA most importantly :) If you are making the run from HB

Call the office at 619 425 8060. Ask for Leslie the Office Manager.

Price is contingent on if you need a root canal and the crown's material, but the base model runs about $450-500.

Tell Leslie you are a fishing buddy with me, Todd.

That's a great hook up Todd
I've done the TJ trips many time over the years with mixed results. Todd's Dad sounds like a much better option.

Below is my old thread that started my journey South. I was in extreme pain and needed help pronto. Make sure to follow the link at the end of this first link given.

All I can say is that my experience was totally incredible, and far far better than I ever would have expected! I'm totally sold on this place!

Best of luck to you!

To answer your question: unequivically and absolutely YES! When I found out about this clinic, I was glad I had just cancelled dental ins when I was working. Very clean, hygenic, english speaking and professionally on par- if not better than some dental offices we'd been to in San Diego. Washington Dental Clinic is located on Revolucion Ave and Calle nueve (9th st). Don't have to drive across- walk to any Yellow Cab taxi and they'll take you there. The clinic will pay for your Yellow Cab from/back to the border. Post here if I'm lying, but you will find more gringos than Mex at this clinic. I've been going for cleaning every 6 months for years. Cost for exam, initial xrays and cleaning about $20-, a little more if deep cleaning is needed, but they only make $10- on me because they pay the taxi $5- each way. Took my Dad there for exam, cleaning and fillings and it cost me about $50-. If you choose to drive, large, safe parking in front of clinic, and they'll give you a pass to cross in the Ready Lane- not Sentri. I run my debit card and have never seen any issues on my credit union statement, but I call C.U. before going down there. Crowns, yes. Braces, no. Had a double crown done, can't remember what I paid but it was about 1/3 or better than what it would have cost even with ins. They actually give you a written warranty on work they do. My Mom broke a tooth from her denture. Took her to dentist in SD and paid $250 to have it put back on (no ins on Mom). It broke two days later. Took her down to Washington Dental, they just fixed it for her free of charge and said hope to see me again. This place is no b.s. Google them; I think they also have a clinic in Mexicali. I also want to say that I agree with others here; where ever you go, you need to get your pain checked right away. As others said, it can get real bad real fast. Good Luck, and let us know.

I have had a couple of crowns made along with root canals with this female dentist in TJ. Complete root canal and porceline crown was $360 and has been the best dental work in my mouth...better than the work I had done in the US. She is located about a mile from the border...one block east of Revolucion in downtown TJ. Her office is on Calle 4th between Revolucion and Madero in zona centro. There is a big sign "Optica y Dentistas Vision 2000" on the south side of the street that you can't miss. Here is the info:

Dra N. Angelica Rodriguez Olmedo
Cirujano Dentista
Tel. 685-25-62
Tel from USA 01152 (664) 685-25-62

Hope this helps...looks like you have a few great options.

It's a farther than TJ - nearly 2 hours from San Diego - Although Rojelio Ramos in Algadones is a great Dentist and their staff is great, better than I've had in the U.S.. The work done there was better than done here, and they have all new technology and equipment. Just my opinion, but they are great. Root Canal and Crown was $600 total and a two day process complete - You can stay at the Quichan Resort just outside mexico in the U.S. and it's only a mile away, and very nice. Fuel, Room, and travel you are probably going to spend a few hundred extra- but well worth it. http://www.losalgodones.com/dr_r_ramos.htm

I love that place and wish it were closer as i would spend more time down there occasionally. I've lived here in San Diego my whole life and have crossed the local border into Mexico/TJ and beyond countless times, but the vibe & experience I felt in Los Algodones was something really different for me.

I had some pretty extensive work done at Washington Dental last year and will definitely use them again.

I want to thank everybody for there input on the Mexico Dentist's. I have talked to several people in person who have gone down and had procedures done, everyone says good things.
I have done a lot of internet surfing and am convinced it is the way to go. I will let you all know how it goes.
Thanks

Two years ago my son( then 13 )had some cavities (4 or 5 and and needed a rootcanal)The best we could find here was 4000 bucks.I didn't have the coin so my wife talked to her cousin who had a cousin who was a dentist in Mexicali. So from Nor cal we set off on our roadtrip. The office was fine inside (outside was a different story).Anyways we had to stay a couple days as the lab had to expedite the porcelain crown. The dentist a young lady maybe 30 did the fillings but a guy came in to do the rootcanal carrying a doctor type bag like they used in the old days.He was the 'specialist".It made me a little nervous but all turned out well and my boy has since been to an American dentist who gave all the work the thumbs up.We paid 550 US for everything and toured Mexicali for a few days to boot.We will be back when the need arises.Just get some kind of referral and don't walk in to the first office with an open chair :)

The best medical care is moving out of USA. Everything from cavities to quad by-bass. Unfortunate, but true. The early adaptors (including some of my friends) have already discovered that. I can't speak to TJ specifically (thought I have heard good things from reliable sources), but major heart surgery, including private jet and first class recovery, is a fraction of the US price, and outcomes are at least as good. (Hard to compare given all of the uncontrolable variables, but at least on the very basic stats, superior outcomes outside USA.)

I am going to throw my 2 cents in for ClinikeDentale in Tijuana. They are 4 blocks south of Revolution on the same street as the Jai Alai arena (7767-A Calle 7). My son had braces done there for less than 1/3rd (and seemingly 1/2 the time) of the US rate and both my wife and I have had work done at good rates and with good quality. The head guy (Dr. Flavio Valdez) speaks very good english and runs a good clean office. He has clients from Washington state and beyond. The number to call is 619-870-9025. I just got back from a visit today.

Just a heads up....

Family members took my Mexican mother in law to the (so called reputable) dentist they have been using in TJ to get a root canal done (she had been in pain for weeks)

They were just about to get started when a sink was spotted in the corner full of water (prob bleach water) and surgical tools

They got her up and headed back home to Orange County.....

May not have been a big deal but even my little ghetto 3 seat dentist with great rates in OC uses a service that cleans and seals the tools she uses on me.......Warren

I hate the dentist. To put in into perspective I have went thru 6 dentists in 10 years in the states. I have sensitive teeth and the fucking US dentists don't give a rats ass.

I went to TJ dentist loaded with US insurance and told them I want to feel no pain and need XYZ done. Fucking great and the price is right.
"Mr whitting does that hurt? Yes? ok un momento... Now? ah ok mejor si?" :D

The technology is not at the US standards, but the customer service is the way things ought to be.

viva la dentistas.

I have had one root canal, several fillings and cleanings.
