Hey Guys,

heading to Catalina for a weekend of camping in June. I'm looking to do some shore fishing out there and I thought I'd toss some surface irons or coltsnipers to try and catch a yellowtail. Has anybody got any experience with this? Any tips?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Last fall in Cherry Cove were were catching them in 10' of water from the can. I know not exactly what you are looking for, but they little firecrackers are still thick over there and you may have a shot. Krocs did the trick.

Sweet, good to know. Is cherry cove sandy bottom or kelp? I guess I'm asking for what kind of shoreline and bottom to look out for. I was thinking to look for deeper, rocky dropoffs. Am I thinking the right thing?

You'll probably catch a bunch of calicos in the process.

Deep water access and presence of bait/structure attracts all fish, including yellows. Look for structure and bait and you'll find some little yellows.
