Wanting a bigger boat
Just picked up my first Tiagra 50w and paired it with a graph tech 130-200lb rating, my question is I want to make this my kite fishing rod and I wanted to see others are rigging their kite set ups, are you guys going full braid? Or like 2/3s braid and a 1/3 mono top shot? I currently have it loaded with approx 600 yds of 200lb hollow core (how it came).

anything helps
-thanks

All braid with a short top shot. Too much mono will weigh too much and tend to pull the kite down.

Are you using it to fly the kite if so 65-80 pound spectra no mono. u don’t need that big of a reel for kite. For the yummy or dead flyer side use heavy line but short leader or 200 or 400 mono. I think u are confusing kite side with bait side.

How short we talking, I threw about a 25 foot top shot of 200 just because in these off months it’s nice to use the top shot when shark fishing and other stuff
Sorry. I thought you were talking about long range sardine/salami fishing on an anchored boat. I don't really know what they use when using the kite to fish flyers or yummies on a moving boat, but I would think a 25' wind on leader would suffice.

The greatest determining factor in my book is kite height off the water when your bait gets deployed. Remember you really don't want the "spectra to topshot" connection going through that kite clip over and over again. Even "flossed".

That said....I'm with CUBEYE. 20' - 25' should be sufficient. "Clip height" when deploying....determines the length in my book. Hell there are times I will tie my spectra directly to the swivel on my leader. But that's just me. Tight lines brother!

I use 6 feet of 400 mono leader crimped with with swivel tied directly to 130 hollow. The goal with yummy or dead flyer is keep barely tapping surface so u can use whatever above the water because the fish do not see it.
