I had some crew help as well. We were really pulling hard on this thing and it just wouldn’t turn. Some fish are just more angry and stubborn than others. It was hooked towards the top of the mouth on a 2/0 mutu.
It was on a Fathom correct ? good job anyway with other nice fish.
What is the Viper time to get a 250-300 lb tuna to color
Sad to lose a fish like that at color regardless of time it took to get there, may never happen again
295 # on the scale around 30 minutes Penn VISX30, 130# on SS OSP 3x, 30# drag. Big tuna is no joke, so you got to have the right gear and drag.

Been fishing all my life, but somewhat new to the big fish game. So in my opinion going 3 for 4, with 2 over 100 and two chest freezers full of filets was outstanding to me and exceeded my expectations. Didn’t mean for this to turn into a dick swinging thread 😂
You had a great trip and that’s a beauty Viper

90 minutes to bring in a fish ? you must be under gun, wrong gear or drag is way too light. Thanks for the report.
Went in the garage to check my drag settings out of curiosity. Deckhand set my 80 setup at 12 lb at strike, and my 100 setup was at 18 lb. I could've pulled way harder for sure and maybe get that cow in before it pulled the hook. Chalk it up to a learning experience and pre setting my own drags from now on.

I think it is important to share facts….. I am happy to share.

I went on one of Jeff’s trips because I wanted to specifically target big fish. Those who know me well, know that is my game. I brought a half dozen of my own flying fish even though he said he would provide one for each passenger. His trips are usually about flying the balloon rig with a frozen flyer 3-4 at a time (he claims its by rotation). A number was chosen on the way out and that was supposed to start it.

First stop it is all his closest buddies and him flying a balloon, second stop….same thing. Third stop they finally all get bit (mind you it is the same people and it is HOURS later). Jeff gets his fish in and they hook one on the kite as well. Guess who gets the kite fish???? It’s Jeff.

By this time I am not just voicing my annoyance, I am being down right confrontational about it being complete bullshit and so the rotation FINALLY starts because there is simply no denying it.

Long story short, I never did get a single shot at the balloon. I fished plenty (sinker, flyline, and jig) but the fact that a few got several rotations while myself and one other guy got none, left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

To make matters worse Jeff stole my flyers. When confronted about it said he would get them out of his cooler but drove away instead.

So buyer beware. Jeff seems nice enough, but that is all a facade.

Got lucky enough to get a spot on a Jeff Price 2 day big bluefin charter on the Thunderbird out of Newport with 19 other great anglers.

I think the original plan was tanner, but we stayed closer to SCI due to bad weather out there.

We started fishing around 4am or so the first night/morning which produced 4 or 5 bft over 100 and one at 207. After grey light, we plunked away all day at good grade fish. After sunset, not much luck on the jig bite as fishing was pretty slow and only produced a couple throughout the night.

Day 2, we moved closer to back of the island and got into a nice drift until about noon, when we had to start heading back. I had the last fish, which had to go in the bait tank, since we had completely filled the fish hold.

We ended up with 25 over 100 lbs and quite a few in the 60-80 range, along with a few yellowfin.

I went 3 for 4. Got a 120, 150+, and a 60 lb yellowfin. I lost my first fish of the trip at gaff due to a pulled hook after an hour and a half fight. The crew estimated it to be between 250-300 lbs. Heartbreaker for sure, but I was blessed with a few chances at redemption. All caught on 80 and 100 pound drop shot 6-8 oz sinker rig and sardine. The big one was hooked on a slow retrieve, and the rest bit with the reel in gear, sitting in the zones that the captain called out. Amazing trip!

I did ONE of Jeff’s trips. There is no chance in hell I would ever do another. You are lucky they bit the sardine.
Your an idiot Jeff price does not take the kite bite he can hook his fish dose not need the kite to do it you must need that every body sets their own stuff up and hooks own fish you may not be able to do that this guy had a good trip big fish earned not hand out good times

    Hey Let Em Eat,

My name i Jseff Price what is your name?
You should have no problem stating it if you are going to stand behind your lies.

Or are you going to hide behind a key board?

As you know I am not a thief and the BS in the parking lot never happened, you are a liar..

I've had 32 charters and every one of them the rotation has started with #1 on the manifest.

Not some number chosen on the way out, you are a liar.

The rotations are always 30-45 minutes monitored by the crew not me.

Yes my friends are great fishermen obviously much better than you.

You never voiced your annoyance or got confrontational because it never happened, you are a liar..

I have not fished the kite in 10+ years and never accepted a kite fish hand-off, you are a liar.

I really don't know if you have been on one of my trips, are an A-hole or need medication.

Rather than spread lies on a computer, maybe go out fishing more

    Jeff,

I give exactly ZERO fucks about what you say now. What I said happened and it happened exactly the way I said it. I do not lie, I don’t embellish, and everyone who knows me well knows EXACTLY that.

Perhaps you remember the guy who showed you how to rig the flyers with tie wire instead of the sticks? That would be me. Does that ring a bell??

Rather than puff your chest out and say stupid shit, take it as a lesson and be better. It’s all water under the boat at this point anyways.

Everyone with any reading comprehension knows you are full of it now. Why? Because what exactly do I have to gain by lying?? Most smart folks ask that question

Was on this trip as well. Very enjoyable trip with plenty of opportunities to fish any method desired.
I got to see the fish in question right before the hook pulled, easily 250#.

Got this one later that night on a SK jig. Right around 125#

Thanks for the invite Jeff, I would gladly fish your charters in the future.
