Thresher Fishing

Got down to the marina late, 7 AM. MondoMan calls and asks if I'm on the water. I tell him were just pulling out of the slip, and he says that he got a big one hooked up on his little Gregor and needs help.
I tell my daughters about his call and Ally says " I like this guy."
We run out there and sure enough, he's got a big one. He had been fighting it for about 20 minutes prior to our arrival and for about 20 minutes after. Two hours later, we had our own.

Given the way I'm holding it...that 'would' be a funny caption and I can take a joke. I know what you mean and how these guys on this board can be. I also think that those are the guys that don't get out there and put in days and hours to finally catch one. They are the ones that 'theoretically' know you could stay out there longer and 'maybe' catch a bigger one. That's easy to theorize from a computer chair in the comfort of one's home. My kids and I agreed that if we caught a really small one, we would let it go. We fought this one for some time and decided to keep it as we knew we were not going to get another chance for some time.

Unfortunately, it was hooked in the dorsal fin. Even though we set up with chumbucket and bait and wait...when it finally came, it got foul hooked. This made the fight harder and no jumps. My daughters kept asking "Are you sure it's a thresher?" I was disappointed as we were ready to video the jumps...oh well, next time.

Yeah...that was a trip, getting Mondo's call and rushing out to help him gaff his. He had a much bigger one. It made for an exciting morning from the moment we left the dock.

Yeah...my daughter was awe struck and didn't think about getting Mondo's picture. I hope we get another chance. Buddy boating with him was really fun.

I'm heading out on a 3 day on the pacific Voyager leaving this Thursday night. The tuna counts have shot up just in time. This is a private charter and there are a couple of spots left if your interested. I will want to get back out after the T's after that...if they are still around.

Nice job! On Saturday, my dad and I were fishing around the LB Wall and saw one smackin bait. All we had were plastics which we through at it but couldn't snag it or get him to eat.
