Many spots of YFT showing today - We had our chances but to put it bluntly, we simply sucked with 2 break-offs and no fish boated.

Cool video. At least you hooked a couple which is better than we did last time out... Better luck next time getting them in the boat! We should all be getting more chances as the season progresses although I am worried about the seiners mopping up most of the YFT.

Feel your pain, on the overnight that fished all day Sat we pulled into and drifted over on three separate occasions football field sizes of breaking fish.

I was listening to radio transmissions of the plane and boats then the said go to sat phone that was probably when they where going to give #s of the fish to wrap !!! But there is a big area of fish. They could not get them all last year. They won't this year either !!! Keep at them.

The seiners are wrapping BFT or YFT? I thought they would have hit the BFT quota by now???

We were on a 2 day this past weekend in inside of Catalina. Large schools of breezing YFT and porpoise. 40-60 lb model. They boiled, shined, breezed and jumped but wouldn't bite anything with a hook. Local seiners were making sets on these YFT with a spotter plane also. I assume its the same fleet on the YFT down south.

Seiners are really focused on YFT as it's the only game in town at this point with the low bft quota, sardine closure, no skipjack or bigeye around. I hear they are expected to wrap the bulk of the yft that come into local waters. Can't hide from those planes and those nets. Law of unintended consequences, close one thing down and something else gets nailed.

    Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Now we can add seiners to the ever present buffet and the resulting lockjaw.
