Got a last minute call from a buddy to jump on his 1-1/2 day charter on Apollo with his group from AZ.

Had a good stop in the AM with the rest of the fleet on eager biting YFT. Small kine models but tons of fun. It turned into a parking lot shitshow so we moved on after things started shutting down.

Early afternoon we were all alone and metered a huge body of fish that charged the boat as soon as they started throwing bait. It was game on. All they wanted was to die. Complete mayhem ensued.

Turned out to be a great trip. Small fish but the full speed bite was one for the record books. I was throwing a swimbait on 40lb. and an old Penn 4/0 with Tib Frame. Swimbait got bit every cast as soon as it hit the water.
Crew was dropping dead sardines at the corner just lowering them in and getting bit no casting just setting them in the corner. Every bait was bit as soon as it hit. Captain didn't want to leave but we were at limits and done so had to motor away and left them biting.

My first time on this boat and it is a very nice operation and comfortable boat to fish. Great captain and crew.
    Good times.. no complaints.

I know everyone thinks blood on a deck is sooo cool, however this boat looks under staffed or inexperienced. Bothers me when the boat is not being flushed off and we're tripping over fish. Not only is it a safety issue but it reminds me of being in Wallmart at Christmas.

Fish with cool heads and some class, like you've been there and done that.

Having been on this same yft bite Monday, even on my 21 foot boat we had no time to stop and flush down during the bite, and that was just 3 of us. Every hook in the water instantly was bit, now imagine that happening with 19 anglers. Washing down the deck was not a priority for us or I imagine the deckhands when fish are coming over the rail every minute. We had 11 fish in under 30 minutes. The stops are frantic and quick, so I would imagine that this boat had 95 fish put on very quickly. They limited early and surely had plenty of time to clean the deck a few minutes after this photo.

PS the bigger issue than the blood on the deck is fishing in Tevas. Now that's both a safety and a fashion concern.

that's funny, because I asked a Deck Hand a few years ago
about that, and he said they only wash the
deck down, when they are on the move
because, If they wash the deck, and all that blood goes
over board ,it will shut the bite Down.

That could make sense. White sharks, for example, aren't amused by the smell of their own species's blood, and will get right on out of there. But mackerel seem to love the smell of their own blood, since they love eating chunks of other mackerel.

I've cleared the bilge on my boat during a WFO YFT bite, with a steady flow of blood coming out, and the fish did not care. Now I could see sharks becoming interested and shutting down the bite with their own. Where there's yellowfin, there's usually hammerheads.

Sounds like someone is jelly and ya I hate it when the whole boat catch fish so fast that the deck hands can't get them out the way or wash off it's the worst. :frehya2: Dam I hate those WFO days. :idiot:
