launched davies at 0600 after i drove thru the ranger fleet parked 3 wide in the davies parking lot. Almost intimidated as i had to squeak thru 3 big 23-24 foot boats with 5 guys cluttered between the boats. Im thinking these guys probably going to run to an island? Up the PV coast. Chase the bluefin/yellows local now that the weather died down? Its always fun to anticipate what someone may do on the water. Then see their results on social media later in the day or whenever.
Im thinking bass on the stones. Yes Corys report got me all fired up as i dink around the local LB coast from Pv to the pipe. So im doing the leadhead and squid thing, the last 20 or so pieces of fresh dead i had. Straight away its biting. First 6-7 drops results in a 1-2 lb bass both calicos and sandies. Slows down as tide goes slack about 720-730. Im thinking i want to pull on a real fish. So i go look out by 150. Outer rigs and dont see any life. I remember years ago when it was wide open yellowtail fishing the fish oriented with the ridge nearby. So i head uphill into that 8 knot NE breeze. Couple boats zipping out heading straight to behind the rigs. I see birds in the foreground and its looking good. Swirling, diving and now im kinda freaking out. So now im in the run n gun mode. Sliding in the chaos has subsided but seems like fish are close by. Throw the Tady 45 mint n white downwind and get a good cast off. Couple cranks and woh woh im on oh shit no im off arghhhhh, reel in now heartrate really racing. Birds are starting to pop off in multiple zones nearby just out of casting range. I let a few fly hoping for that “blind cast” fish. Things calm down and I get myself prepared for a possible yellowtail. Lurking around waiting for the birds to act up i have a school show up on meter. New Salas 6x all mint deployed. Hits bottom 10-12 cranks later it stops with that oh so lovely feeling.”Cant be bottom” is probably folks first thought, then the unmistakable zing of the first run and tailthumps and headshakes. Epic battle. Hooked it down deep 150’.
    Water 60.3-61 ish
    Current peeling downhill
Wind inside mellow but outside 5 miles kinda bumpy snotty
And the fish was taped at Davies (other post said 16 lbs) but i was guessing 14 lbs and the DFG/W guy said the same as per a 31” fish.
Fun morning on the water. Came in after this fish, didnt get ice. Seemed like it stayed beautiful till about 1:30 then wind kicked in.
