turn it into a state park...up here (santa cruz)
we have Natural Bridges state park, with awesome tidal pools..no harvesting allowed. it keeps it beautiful and abundant of sea life for the kids to enjoy...unfortunately a few can ruin it for everyone
As a kid , I grew up across the bay from San Diego. There was a small rock jetty at the beach. As a kid, I used to fish there frequently. Plenty of mussels to use for bait. We took what we needed. Once in awhile I might take a dozen home to clean and freeze for another day.
As time went by, I started seeing people with pitchforks, raping away. They may have been bait dealers, or others. The last time I tried to fish there, I had to take bait as there really weren't any mussels to be had. The tide pools there no longer held any small fish or starfish. Fucking sad. I haven't been back there in ages. Like 40 years now I guess. It was always reliable and fun. Better times for sure. The last time I crossed the bridge was in '07. I was back in SD in January of '17. I couldn't even stand to show my partner where I grew up. Condo-nado sucks.
Grew up in Pismo and clams were plentiful they are making a come back but it takes seven years for them to be legal size. I am always seeing people Poaching the clams so I make sure I have my phone handy to drop that Dime.
I'm over the tourist no respect they leave trash all over the beach. No shame or class.
