Fished the San Diego this weekend and These guys are dope. 50 miles from the dock fishing Clemente. They not only took us to the fish but told us how to catch them. Hats off to the crew, they were awesome. I was lucky and hooked 3 and landed 2. All caught chucking jigs 2 on the 120g colt and 1 on the 160g flatfall. 40 lb test on the calstar jig stick.

Are they going off shore again?
If so, 40# gear minimum. Colt Snipers, Zakanas, and small flat falls from 100-130 grams seemed to be the ticket. Light sinkers in the 2oz-4oz range seemed to work better than heavier sinkers. Definitely layer up....it got cold on the 4 hour ride out and back.
Bring appropriate sized fluorocarbon leader material to tie to your mono. Good luck!

Nice fish but stupid title. I don't think your five or something.
    I like the title!!!

Yesterday, I was shocked to see the Liberty, San Diego, Grande and one other boat - I couldn't identify - out past San Clemente Island. I was thinking WTF? These guys are pushing the limits of the old standards.

It's a whole new world.... To say the least.

I think your usage of the word "your", is incorrect.

Grats to the OP on his limit.
I think your comma after "your" is unnecessary.
Did you realize they're casting their baits over there?

I changed out the hooks on the way out. Went to a jhook with same split ring.

I change them out as well. Either to a stronger treble or a in line single. I also change the split ring to a stronger one while I'm at it.
