The Team at BD has officially launched the Offshore Fishing Channel! This channel will bring you biweekly content such as articles and videos that cover everything you need to know about fishing offshore. For you Long Range Fisherman, this is the time of year when all the offshore fishing is happening on these longer sportboat trips. Check out our newest article, along with the offshore channel, to watch, read, and engage with the best fishing content on the web!

This week, we discuss one of Baja's greatest fisheries, The Ridge. The Ridge is a 50-mile-long seamount Northwest of Magdalena Bay which has four prominent high spots that create an incredibly varied and structured bottom. Long-range captains regularly make the 400+ mile run down the coast, counting on the wide-open fishing that is often the norm.

The ridge is possible on a 6 day but you get very little fishing time. You travel 50 hours down to the 13 spot or the 23 spot and then you only have about a day and a half of fishing time before you head home which takes another 50 hours. If fishing is good you end up with limits of 20lb+ yellowtail and 20lb YFT plus maybe some wahoo. I was down there on a trip a couple of weeks ago and things were pretty slow. A few wahoo and a ton of small 10lb YT and 10lb YFT. With Cedros, Guadalupe and the other areas closed sometimes it is the only game in town and you have to make the long run down there to find any biting fish. Hopefully the BFT hang around for a few more years so you don't have to make that long run to find decent fishing.

Yep, with Cedro’s closed, and 5 Day, is A tuff sale, that is why the 8 days are more popular now.

The Success out of Point Loma Sportfishing used to take the boat down to Mag Bay middle of Oct through November and pick up passengers in Mag Bay. Fly to Loreto, get picked up by a van and be to Mag bay in about 3 hours. Fishing the next day. He had a freezer for your fish. Limited to 10 passengers. It was a sweet deal if you only had 5 to 7 days to work with vacation-wise.

The picture in the full article didn't show much of anything. This is a better graphic of the depths.

'Champ and Camp' sort of pioneered that, didn't end well tho. Constitution trips look really nice!
Question for successful K2K wire knot tanglers (re the below quote from OPs Full Article link) .....Which knots(s)?
Knot 2 Kinky” wire is well worth the investment. True to the name, you’ll experience no kinks and the wire is supple enough to tie with regular knots.
Ps... My Perfection Loop looks really sketchy in this wire (as in shitty:)

I’ve seen it done a few different ways on the boats but I’ll link a great video below showing an easy way to do it.

Thanks! Impressive technique/knot. Demo used 20# floro so guessing much lighter wire also used (likely lighter than f/most wahoo applications). Thinking knot difficulty may also increase if tying w/heavier wire. Be a matter of trying it out. Not sure I will go that route tho a/c I don't care for the wickers left protruding from the finish knot (a/c the ouch factor). The reply is very much appreciated. Thank you again! Lew H.
