Alright fine, I can spread some gossip

@TooManyHobbies , @slicklasers, @skagittarius, and I got to ride out “towards” the 126 courtesy of @Captain Decent on the Bert.

Iced up and a couple of scoops and away we went

as it turns out we threw a private party before the 126 and y’all missed out

a bunch of fish were killed straight out before we decided to chill for the evening

calm waters gently rocking the night away with big boats all around and sunrise was soon upon us

we started bagging loins to make room, and also started to troll

it didn’t take long to get bit and a small bait stop going

Then somebody hooked one that went way down deep and just sat there

it was a good fight and a large shark (said to be thresher by other crew) came flying out of the water. I saw a 10’ shark splash about 50 yards back personally but not long enough to identify species

anyways, that story would eventually come to an end but man it was cool.

then, the same rod got a screamer that jerked line way different than the shark, I watched an Avet with full drag spin so fast it would peel skin off your thumb.

who knows but we were sure having fun now!!!

eventually, we found our way into a “every rod whiz-bang going off” quintuple troll bite and boated every fish! That got us into a WFO stop until we tapped out and called in another boat

Super fun trip! Could not have asked for better weather or a better crew!

There were definitely more tuna around than recent reports suggested.

I’ve never charted so many fish in my life. The sonar was “maaHkin” all day.

Super awesome trip! That Bertram is one awesome ride, really well built machine!

Great crew with several high points.. Quintuple troll fish all landed, screamer that spooled me, waking up and being right back on the fish! Oh yeah, and the shark thing was pretty awesome, at least we got to see it! Just prior to hooking it, I had gotten tangled with Ryan and cut my line. I hastily tied on a 150# barrel swivel and a pre-tied leader. Not sure how I hooked that thing, my guess is that it took a swipe at it and I snagged it pretty close to the mouth, or perfectly in the corner of the jaw? It wasn't like any snagged in the side 'I'm so fucked I have no controll' fish! After it broke off and I reeled back in, that barrel swivel - bronze painted black- was ground down and shiny on one side, and there was no leader left, I assume it got rubbed away to nothing on shark skin! In retrospect, that shark was just like fighting an oversized sturgeon. Heavy, and hunkered down. I was totally out gunned!

In case anyone is wondering, 58 tuna hit the deck, but only 57 made it back as I may have dropped one over the side while dunking it to clean out the gut cavity.. (washdown pump crapped out)

I brought my magma cutting board and carked tuna most of the way in as we were beyond plugged for a little bit. I kept thinking I was going to get to it Saturday evening, but the bean bag was pretty hard to get out of after a little bourbon! Anyway, between @slicklasers and myself, we got through the 35 from Sat plus 4 more caught early Sunday on the way in, the rest were left to get cold. My hands are a little wrecked, as were my Gage Grundens.. not ideal for the job! Tossed those at the end of the day!

Couple general notes, for anyone planning to do this sort of thing.. If you are planning on crashing in a bean bag, make sure you have a way to prop up your feet, and while I wasn't cold, a simple tarp with Mylar on one side would have been an improvement.

I wouldn't hesitate to do that again, given good ocean conditions!
