Damn fishing was good back then... you could catch it all out of Long Beach. My father in-law as a kid used to ride the city bus to the harbor and back bringing rod, reel, and gunny sack full of fish home. Man how things have changed. Thanks for posting Mike

Things were good here in my San Diego area. I rarely got North to Long Beach, it was a long drive, took 3 hours in our '54 Chevy. So my Dad said "..forget it, fish here!" '59-'68.it was unreal. In La Jolla Kep Beds area...we caught 50-100 20lb.+ yellowtail per 1/2 Day trip out of Mission Bay, with just 10-12 passengers. from Mission Bay Sportfishing, a little ticket shack, at the top of the dock! Those were the days!!

All right! Discounts at School? Great! I pinheaded half the time for a little work, fished and filleted (tips), gaffed.. and clean the boat, all free!!

Yeah, Ed mcKuen drove it in the early years, and other boats...
I had forgotten that. I remember feeling abandoned when he brought the PQ over from Hawaii as I recall. Correct me if I'm wrong. For a Long Beach boy, that picture also recalls the landmark Rainbow Pier, the Pike, with it's roller coaster, and the Villa Riviera Hotel.

Yes, all that stuff is in the background. Make a hell of a memory pic for a long time Long Beach fisherman resident. I don't know if you're right about bringing the PQ from Hawaii, don't remember.
Gunny sack days long gone. but , still being used by many 1/2 day boats here. $1 and they wash and reuse, can't take them!

I remember collection them from the trash cans at the dock at Seaforth and Mission Bay Sportfishing, washing them in the bay, and drying them at home. I folded rolled them and sold the back to the Landings or Midway bait and Tackle for 30¢. They sold them to fishermen for 50¢. They could keep them... but many tossed the stinky things away!! Wow that was 1959-60. Damn, I'm OLD!!
